Graphics card display port?

what is the use of the gpu's display ports, cna't you just do the same using the motherboard"s display ports?

Yes you can but using mobo display ports you'll using built in GPU not the discreet or dedicated GPU hence you'll not get the performance of discreet/dedicated GPU.

so, how does that work, if i use the motherboards hdmi i will get horrible performance because i didn't plug it in to my gtx 650 2gb?

Not horrible I did not mean that. It depends. What is your mobo and CPU? It's performance will be less as compared to GTX 650 though

my mobo is an asus h61m-a/usb 3 with an i3 3240 with in intel hd 2500

Yes performance of Intel HD 2500 is below than that of GTX 650. Use GTX 650's ports for your requirements.
