[SOLVED] Graphics card fans running full speed

Recently, the fans on my GPU started running max speed 100% of the time. It's very loud - sounds like a baby jet. I've tried a fresh install of drivers, ddu, different PCI-E slot, different PSU, re-installed Windows with no luck.

I also can't seem to get control of the fans at all - neither through nvidia nor with msi afterburner. They just keep spinning. Temps are fine, and the fans come on immediately and never stop.

Any ideas of what I can try? Other than the overbearing sound of the fans, I don't seem to be having any other issues.

Edit: Tried different PSU and re-installed Windows, no change

Edit 2: Replaced it with my old AMD card and no problems. Am I looking at a dead NVidia card?

Try resetting your UEFI/BIOS and maybe try to update it it could be a problem in there.

Thanks for response! Tried resetting bios, no luck. Updated bios, no luck. Fans still loud and annoying.

Try turning off you PC and flipping the PSU switch off and hold the power button for 10 seconds to drain the juice and make sure all you cables are plugged in correctly and that your GPU is seated all the way. If that does not fix anything then try using nTune to crank the fan speeds down. There is a possibility that a temperature sensor is broke inside the Video Card and it wont let you turn down the fan speed so it don't overheat trying to protect you from breaking your card. You might want to get a pro to look at your card and make sure the sensors are working correctly.

Tried the PSU power cycle thing and no luck. I'd also tried nTune previously and wasn't able to do anything with the fan speed.

However, through my fiddling, I recently realized that it is actually only the fan on the left that is making the horrific noise. When this happens, the fan on the right seems to start spinning a bit slower (and rattling a bit). The fan on the right also feels very hot when I touch the 'center' of it.

Recently, this seems to be happening in 'spurts' instead of constantly like before.

I've been in contact with Zotac (for a bit - no luck yet) to see if they can offer any advice. Is it possible for the fans to go bad on a graphics card? It's only about a year old.

is the card dusty? try cleaning it out with canned air. also with the rest of the pc. I don't think this is the problem since your amd card ran fine, but if your nvidia card is is dusty that can be the issue.

I have similar issue.

I replaced fans with new matching set and nothing changed. I don't think it's the sensor either (at least in my case) since the temp in monitoring software is changing and it's low. It's not surprising since the fans are maxed all the time. I also have another card like that and when I connect them SLI the one with good fans is running higher temps.

Fans are spinning on max the moment you turn on the computer. Control doesn't work. I tried different types of software.

Would be nice to find solution. Other than that card is working fine.

I know it's been over a month, but just wanted to give a final update for anyone who might be interested...

After ongoing discussion with Zotac, they eventually approved an RMA for the card. It failed their testing, and they sent me a newer model for a replacement. I just received it today and all seems well.

Not the 'self-help' option I was looking for, pleasantly surprised with Zotac customer support and glad to be up and running again.
