Money doesnt matter to you when buying a videocard, but you dont want to replace your psu if needed?

anyways, we need more information about your system to tell you what is workable.
If we have no idea what you are running, we cant tell you what is too much or too little.

from a guessing standpoint, I think the ATI 6950 2gb or the Nvidia GTX 560Ti is the highest you can go on a 500watt psu.

Are you recommending using 6 pin adapters on those cards ?

EDIT- I think it is a bad Idea

With your power stats I would suggest a 6850 any else in league requires more 6pin connectors
I find nvidia to be a bit more power hungry in recent series. I would stick to the 6850!

6850 is much better than a 550ti. Not to mention the 6 pin limitation

edit: 460 is faster than 550ti card, and further more the 6850 is slightly faster than the 460. It's like lego's your answer is obvious
6850 > 460 > 550ti > ... 9600gt?

It typically works on lower cards, but it's sketchy at best. If your psu lacks the 6 pins required for strong cards and or sli//xfire, it's for good reason
