Graphics card keeps lagging while I game

Ok so I just bought a brand new 1050 graphics card and I've even updated the drivers for it. My issue is whenever I'm playing CS:GO for some reason my fps is fine but then all of a sudden it drops by more then half of what I had before. I've tried tinkering with my settings, cleaned out unnecessary programs, and tried over clocking it. I really don't know what else to do and it's really frustrating when I just want to play without lag.

My current PC components are cpu= AMD FX-4300. gpu= Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050. Windows 10 64 bit home. 12 GB ram.

If you have any ideas on why it keeps lagging or anything please let me know.

I'm not the only one experiencing this either? I just put a thread up about it thinking it was only me. It seems that our 1050's are not running to its full potential while gaming and I know no way of to fix said issue

I don't really understand what you mean. How do I test it with matched ram?

12 GB RAM does not come with kits. So you must have bought 8 GB of RAM (2 x 4GB) with a 4 GB stick you added. Take out this stick, and use whatever RAM you bought which you bought as a kit and not the extra stick.

Try reinstalling drivers for your GPU too after doing a clean uninstall using DDU.

When you updated the drivers did you restart the computer? And was it a clean install to begin with? I was having issues with my new graphics card after clean installing new drivers, but it never asked me to restart so I forgot.

Once I restarted, the issues went away.

On a slightly different subject: As for "FrankenRAM"....

12GB is a strange number to have, as most PCs use powers of 2 (2GB, 4GB, 8GB, etc.) So unless you bought it from a store like that, and it uses (probably) 4 sticks of 3GB RAM, it's probably safe to guess your PC has some mix of 2GB, 4GB, and/or 8GB to make that 12GB total.

Mixing RAM like that is asking for trouble, as even two sticks of the same model of RAM bought at two different times can cause big issues. As an example: I, personally, managed to mix a 1GB and 512MB to make 1.5 GB work for a couple weeks, then it refused to boot. I tested both sticks, and they both work separately, just not together anymore.

And that's just one of many quirks of mismatched RAM.

But, as I said in different words, if it's matching sticks of 3GB or 6GB RAM (either, not both) it should be fine.

I tried this but it just lowered my fps by around 20-50 fps.
It seems to be working fine but occasionally my fps will drop down for a second or two then it will go back up. I'll just have to wait until I can get a new cpu.
Thanks for the help nonetheless.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised. I don't really have any money to upgrade it atm so I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

Honestly there wouldn't be much point to go to another FX unless you could get one dirt cheap. You'd be better off saving up and going for a ryzen system later. What board so you have? Your night be able to overclock a little bit to get some now performance from the 4300 until you can save up.

I have my cpu overclocked. its currently at 4.2
