Hi, I have had a Nvidia GT 520 for over a year now and I've come to upgrading, I bought a Nvidia GeForce 720Ti, when it came to booting my 750Ti, I encountered an error. When I switched on my PC, the brand name of my computer 'ZooStorm' stayed on my screen for 2 minutes, then changed onto a black screen where in the top left there was a white flickering line. The screen did not change from here until I turned off my PC, which turned off instantly when I pressed the power button.
After doing some research I came to the conclusion my power supply was not sufficient. I bought a 550W PSU to run my 750, all cables are in correctly, however the same incident occurs. (The screen with the White flickering line in the top left.) On boot up I'm using a HDMI cable which is plugged into my graphics card. I do not posses a VGA cable. Also I thought I might add, I've tried booting up on the PCI-E option...

PLEASE HELP, if a solution is not found I've lost £170, please help.

Solution
First thing I would do is put in the old card and make sure everything still works. Uninstall all of the GPU drivers and shut down. Install the new card, install the new drivers.

If that doesn't work, put the old card back in. Download and update to the latest BIOS revision for the motherboard. Get back into windows, uninstall the GPU drivers. Then try the new card again.

After that, well, I have been seeing a few more people running into issues with older motherboards and brand new UEFI video cards.

There are two scenarios there that you should try, but it may come down to that.

If you were to specify the motherboard I might be able to dig up some information on it.

Normally we can almost always say that as long as you have a PCIe slot and power you can install an GPU, but lately I have seen a few more issues, particularly being able to access the BIOS, with newer video cards. Not sure if it is a failure of the card's BIOS to not support older style computers or what.

You should have had that information before posting to be honest and I wasn't asking because it wasn't useful. It may help determine whether you can get it to work at all or not.

If you haven't determined what motherboard it is I can't imagine you've taken the time to try updating the BIOS which will require that information. That is likely your best hope for getting it to work.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2PV, I have found out it is not compatible with my new graphics card, now I'm very stuck on which power supply to buy that will be right for my PC overall and my new GPU....

Not much more I can do then give you direction here. You are going to have to do a little work.

Motherboard information can be got by going into the BIOS on boot, or via software like CPU-Z, or by opening the computer and looking for the model information printed on the board.

BIOS updates come from the motherboard manufacturer. That is why you need to know the model.

From their website they will have the downloadable BIOS update, if you aren't already on the latest anyway. Instructions for updating the BIOS will be provided in the motherboard's manual. Also available from the manufacturer's website.

If any of that is beyond what you think you can do then you can take it into a PC repair store.
