Hi all. Thinking of building a gaming system for £500-£550.

This is what I have currently, however, I'm just wondering if I should use my current 19" monitor with the 5770 or get a new monitor and card (lower price). Which do you think?

550W Corsair £62.68

Antec Three Hundred £43.95

Samsung SH-S222A/BEBE 22x DVD±R £17.22

AMD Athlon II X2 240 £43.67

Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H £66.09

4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600) £84.69

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, Single, - OEM £79.43

1GB XFX HD5770, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 1200MHz £119.95

Thanks very much for your help :bounce:

A 5770 on a 19" LCD would do just fine. You should be able to crank up alot of settings as it is a relatively low resolution.

that is a pretty good low cost gamer, I like it. I think you would be less happy with anything lower than a 5770. Maybe a 5750. Just save for a larger monitor later.

The 5xxx series cards have 2 Dual Link DVI-I slots right? My monitor only has one slot for the wire to go into. Do I need a new one or is there just one slot for the monitor and two cables for the graphics card?

Connectivity:
1 x DisplayPort
2 x Dual Link DVI-I
1 x HDMI

Thanks

Not sure I understand. If your monitor has a DVI connector, just use a single DVI cable from one on the video card to the monitor. You can have multiple displays on that video card.

Sorry, description wasn't very clear.

If you look here at the back-end picture of the 5770 you can see two slots for DVI-I cables, right? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-...z-GDDR5-GPU-850MHz-Cores-800-2x-DL-DVI-I-HDMI

Does that mean I need two cables going into my monitor? Or do the 2 for the GPU blend into 1 wire?

You only need to use one. You can plug a monitor into one of each. You can have 3 displays on that video card. 1 must be Display port and the other 2 can be any combo of the HDMI or 2 DVI
