Hello, i have been having an "issue" with my GTX 1080 TI

this is my first ever high end videocard, and from seeing videos of this card destroying games at 4k, i am upset that my card does not seem to be playing games at the level of the videos i watched, even tho the people have the same computer specs as mine

MY PC SPECS
I7-7700k 4.5ghz
GTX 1080 TI 11gb Founders
16gb XPG Ram
1x2 tb hardrive
128gb Western digital Green SSD
650 watt Corsair PSU
Asrock Z270 Extreme 4 motherboard
Corsair H100i V2 Extreme CPU cooler

Now From what i have seen the GTX 1080TI is suppose to Destroy games at 4k. because well, its a 4k Gaming Graphics card, ment for 4k, 60fps. but heres the problem. my 4k monitor broke some time back so i picked up a 32 inch samsung curved 1080p monitor. now u would think, Damn you have a 1080ti and game at 1080p? U MUST GET LIKE 300 fps in everygame at ultra. well, no i dont, im very computer savy, i take very good care of my pc, makeing sure its not fragmented and make sure that its always as clean as it was when it was brand new (no dust). but when i play games, (at 1080p) such as battlefield 1, for some reason i will be playing fine, 60fps locked ultra settings. then for no reason a lag spike will happen and i will go down to like 54 fps, (54 fps aint bad i know) but its awfull when your videocard costs 1000$ plus its only playing at 1080p so it should not ever EVER go into the 50s. not even 60s. i full expect this card can stay over 100 fps easy, without breaking a sweat. but it simply does not, like its not working at full power or something, and i know it is, because i used multiple software to keep track of that. the cpu will be at like 40% and the videocard will be like 80% or so. (playing battlefield 1) i know battlefield 1 is optimzed, so why in the hell am i going into the 50s. when im useing a 1000$ video card at 1080p?

This thing that your card should never EVER go into 50s is just not true for 4K. I recently helped a guy make a decision on which monitor to buy for a 1080ti.
I am an advocate of higher FPS than 60 and truly believe that you are currently much better off gaming with a 2K monitor (1440p) instead of a 4K monitor that runs at 60Hz. Also, 4k pretty much destroys a 1080ti (and not the other way around) in my opinion as 60FPS in many games (or even slightly below that) is hardly acceptable for me. Surely in a game like BF1 I want over 100FPS but preferably 144 or above. This might sound crazy but it is necessary if you want a smooth experience, there is a reason why all serious gamers buy 144Hz monitors, it is not a gimmick at all.

So if...
Remove the v sync or 60 fps lock. And you will see a higher frame rates and smoother game play. Also, I don’t know why it gives you the impression that 1080ti can destroy games in 4K. There are plenty of games with bad optimization that chokes 1080ti @ 2k.

So if you look at a review like this: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/nvidia-gtx-1080-ti-benchmarks,review-4241.html
and notice that many games ONLY run at 60 FPS, (that in my book anyways) becomes an unacceptable experience. Many times if you have 55FPS average you will have Min FPS that will be below 30 occasionally (even if it is for a fraction of a second) and it will get you killed in games and frustrate you.
Much better experience is a GTX 1080 at 1440p at 144Hz. Or a GTX1080ti at 1440p at 144Hz. I would change the monitor if I were you, you wont regret it. That would be my advice, my second advice is to lower some settings in BF1. Definitely disable motion blur for starters and v sync if you want to stay competitive against other online players.

One more thing I have the setup that I mentioned. 1440p 144Hz setup with GTX 1080, 3200Mhz RAM 7700K CPU etc. I have recently considered to upgrade to a 1080Ti to increase my FPS in PUBG which fluctuates from 100 to 144 as it is still annoying if you are a competitive gamer to go below 144Hz but below 100FPS it is definitely noticeable.

Thanks for pointing that out, I misread that. In that case, how are the temperatures looking on the card, and on the CPU?

Also, I would still (after fixing this slowdown issue) go and get a 1440p 144Hz monitor :p
