graphics card prefixes, whats the difference?

what's the difference, e.g MSI ati 7770 and HIS 7770, are they the companies that make them and can you xfire two different ones or do they have to be exactly the same?

The prefix is the company that makes the card.
The companies do not matter. You can crossfire 2 different companies 7770's.

The number is what's important. If you want to crossfire (put two of them together) you will need 2 7770s. MSI, EVGA, POWERCOLOR, SAPPHIRE, GALAXY, these are all brands. It doesn't matter what brand it is, it just has to be 2 7770s.

Those are just the name of the manufacturers. The actual prefixes of the cards currently for Nvidia are GT, GTX and for AMD are just HD. Anything else is irrelevant besides the actualy GPU Name, which would be 7770 in this case. So, while those cards are named as such, they are all HD 7770's.

Also: You CAN Crossfire two of the same GPU model (7770) from different manufacturers. As long as it is a type of 7770 it is compatible.

You can use 1gb and 2gb cards but they will only use 1gb in CFX

Those two mb's are not reccomened for CFX as they only run pcie 2.0x4 on the second slot
With the 7770's it should not suffer too much of an impact though

I would get this build I linked you previously as it has the same mb as the gigabyte prebuilt but runs an 7850

thanks for the extra bit of info I would but im kinda budget bound atm, this is the prebuild im looking at as i dont have the skills to build my own pc from scratch:

was just asking about crossfire as a cheap upgrade in the future, as 7770's seem to be cheap compared to everything else out atm and the motherboard says its xfire capable, so if i needed to upgrade in say 6 months or a year i could just go buy another 7770 for £60 or less.

I understand. For the record though. Build it yourself. You'll gain the experience as you go. In fact, it's quite easy, and after just 5 builds I can do it in a matter of hours (probably faster if I wasn't such a perfectionist haha). I would highly recommend it, the people on these forums enjoy helping new builders out, you could PM me if you really wanted to.

I think ill buy a prebuild and then make a better one when i have some more money just in case I mess up haha, its just i hear you can mess components up really easy like static and things, i wouldnt mind if it was cheaper, but if i bust a processor worth a couple hundred it wouldn't be too great, what does it involve anyway? soldering or just clip ins and connections?, and ill be sure to pm you if and when i build one , also if im going too off topic can someone just say, i know some forums and stuff hate the topic going from one to another and asking too many questions.

I can respect that, I'm just saying, building one will be faster and it's really easy. And static does nothing, as you are in contact with the case a majority of the time, it's just a precautionary thing. But it's your choice.
