graphics card problem

i want to buy a gtx 980 or 750 since gtx 690 is not available nor gtx 670 so isearched around and got that it supports pcie 3.0 slot but in my computer i have pcie 2.0 slot it is a dell precision t3400,intel core 2 duo 2.8 ghz processor and 6 gb ram.so i want some help that will it work on my computer.i have googled alot and some say it will actually work.will it limit the cards performance.thanks for any advice.

It will work 100%.

A PCIe 3.0 GPU in a PCIe 2.0 slot will suffer from very minimal loss.
