Hello! I am having a problem that I can't seem to figure out.
So I got a graphics card 3 months ago gtx 1060 6gb, it worked fine for the 3 months I had it, suddenly when I turn my computer on the fans turn on the lights in the pc turn on, but the nothing else happens, there is no display on the screen of my monitor? Also I would like to add that the mouse likes don't light up either incase that helps, I thought it shows that no power is getting through.
So I swapped the card out to my old one, gtx 550 ti and it works fine! So I thought the card is dead... sent the 1060 back got a refund got a new card plugged it in... Nothing.... It does that same thing! So I put the card in my brothers computer and his computer turned on fine, so its not the card I tried swapping the power supply (more info on the hardware at the end) still the same problem. We have tried uninstalling drivers turning off intergrated graphics, etc the thing is when the card is in the pc I can't even use the intergrated graphics or nothing I have to remove the card completely then turn it on for anything to show up? I also tried removing the hardrive and turning it on incase its a problem with windows, nothing. I took out the battery on the motherboard and put it back in after 10 minutes, and you guessed it... nothing.
I don't know what to do I have been debating getting a new motherboard? The thing is the computer works with my old card just not the new ones all of a sudden.
SPECS:
Gtx 1060 6gb
amd fx 8350 (none overclock)
1tb hardrive
Corsair GS600w Other one I tried was the same, 600w not sure the brand sorry.
GA-78LMT-USB3

''Do you think that will handle the 10 series?'' cant say like here at toms theres a lot of ''funny'' issues with these cards and some older boards heck even the latest boards .

its like support and compatibility has taken a back seat to sales hype and gimmicks , and things just aint so plug and play anymore .

darn your in the uk ?? this seems a sweet deal on a later released 990 fx board

if it was me and I was to get a new board I would look and find the boards that are the latest released ones like that above its there newest AM3+ board not one that's been around for 6 years and revised to death

with that 8350 be sure you get a...
seems odd the card worked fine and now don't cause what you describe sounds like the graphics card and the motherboards bios is not compatible .. these card on most board require a full uefi bios some have legacy support but like EVGA will state there card need uefi bios

I do se there are like 6 revisions of that board you got as well what one is it ??

next to that seems like a power issue maybe the psu you got can run the 550ti but something just failed in it and cant run the 1060 anymore ? this also can be in the motherboard voltage regulation and could be failing to supply full pci-e slot power for that card as well ?

I fell if the card was working fine and failed but tested good in another system I think the board or the psu is at blame power wise ..

let me look at some specs i''ll be back

looks like the cards are close power wise 1060 is a 120w card and a 6-pin and the 550ti is a 114w card and 6 pin ?? hate to think 6w would make a difference in that ??

hard to say now , outside the boards bios just out of the blue rejected the 10 series card ??? crazy

Hey thanks for the fast reply! Did not expect that, yeah it seriously did just reject it me and my father are completely lost as to why.
I feel like the only problem could be is the motherboard, the one I have is a fairly old version Might even be the oldest version they have of the model.
My father seems to think it couldn't be the motherboard, but as you stated "these card on most board require a full uefi bios" I have no idea if it does have this, maybe it does because like I said it worked for 3 months.. Also I should have added this before I tried a gtx 1050 ti in the computer and it didn't work either? So the only card working as of so far is the gtx 550 ti? Maybe it doesn't support the 10 series..

I would think if there was a bios issue it should of been there right from the get go not 3 months down the road . I guess stranger things have happened ??

thing is what you now describe is more to the bios not compatible with the latest cards

like here theres one with a gtx 970 in it ?

then maybe ??

''I havethe same motherboard with the same gpu with the same problem, I assume its the mothboard''

seems to be working fine here ?

CPU : AMD FX 6300@ 3.5 GHz
GPU : MSI Gaming X GTX 1060 [Gaming Mode]
Mobo : Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3

thing is they don't tell you what revision board it is could be a newer / latest rev 6 that may have no issue that the older ones may have ??

just found this one and it shows a revision 6 board in the specs ?

I don't know what else to try though, the last thing is replacing the motherboard and see if that works?
Also I do believe mine is an older model of motherboard, I am going to order the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P, its on amazon for £73 https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Motherboards/Gigabyte-970A-UD3P-Motherboard-Gigabit-Ethernet/B00F5R9O46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487371966&sr=8-1&keywords=am3%2B+uefi

Do you think that will handle the 10 series? I know its kinda silly to just go and buy a new motherboard without knowing if that is what the problem is, but I don't have any other suggestions 🙁

with that 8350 be sure you get a board with at least a solid 8 phase VRM on it [opinion] then 4 phase like you got now just really don't cut it when that 125w cpu is sucking full power

you know seems like I helped a guy with that same board on something this week [ Gigabyte 970A-UD3P ] also I see its got better • 8+2 phase CPU VRM power design for AMD high-TDP CPU support

sure aint the same looking board shown at gigabyte ?? [ no Rev. 2.0. listed from them ?????] hmmmmmmm........ maybe why so cheap ????

Thanks for being very quick to reply I appreciate it a lot! I have learnt a thing or two from you :) I think I will order it then! If it still does not work I really don't know 🙁 I will be sure to let you know what happens, I will order it now and with prime on amazon it should come by sunday. Also need a new case to fit it in haha

looks like a decent board and got a full uefi bios not like the one you got with that Hybrid EFI technology with like it some kind of cross over from legacy to uefi thing a mo jig .

you say the card worked 3 months and quit but work fine in another system rma did not work but did in another system but your old card works fine in it but that card work under legacy bios boards of old anyway

to me it down to 3 things power supply issue ? motherboard issue / bios issue

I guess your down to a leap of faith

There ordered.
Even if it doesn't work, that leaves the power supply for what ever reason. I will replace that next if I need to.
