graphics card problems

My laptop switches from its graphics card to intels integrated graphics when it is not charging. When my laptop is charging it can play games with good fps but when I unplug it it gets terrible fps. I assume it is something in the battery settings where it switches to integrated graphics when it is unplugged but I don't know where the setting is. I have windows 8 and any help would be appreciated.

Go to nvidia control panel
- Select manage 3d settings
- Global Settings tab
- Switch the drop down from Auto to nvidia
- Reboot your computer

I already have that selected it still switches to integrated.

try this: go to device manager, select your gcard, properties, power management tab and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this dev".
