Graphics Card Recommended for Dual Core i7

I have a desktop computer built with a motherboard that accepts 1st gen Intel Core i3/i5/i7 mobile cpus. I currently have a Intel i7 640M and a Nvidia GTX 560 Ti installed. But I'm wondering if I can install a faster GPU.

So my question is: What is the highest preforming Graphics Card I can install?

IS the graphics card for a laptop? if it is, the GTX 780M is the best card for a laptop right now
