Booted my PC (which I've had for 2 years) up this morning and after 5 minutes the screen went blank. Used my cpu's integrated graphics to use the display again and found that my gpu wasn't appearing in device manager or in the BIOS. The gpu's fans do still spin once every few seconds.
I tried plugging in my friend's old 2gb HD 5450 which caught fire when I turned my PC on.

SPECS:

CPU: i5 4690k
MOBO: MSI PC MATE Z97
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970
PSU: Corsair CX600

Solution

Jeez, that's unreal. My guesses would be to try a different PCI-e slot and maybe try swapping out your PSU. Other than that man idk
Mate..what? "I tried plugging in my friend's old 2gb HD 5450 which caught fire when I turned my PC on."

the 5450 actually caught fire from being plugged in? despite your graphics cards now being likely shot, make sure everything else isn't damaged, that's the first priority

By catching fire I mean like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o94prtY0NSM

Rest of PC works perfectly fine.
