I want to upgrade my GPU. I’m currently running an asus 1050ti with an i7 7700k. And I recently purchased the XB271HUA a 1440p 144hz monitor. With the new card I probably won't be playing all game at maxed out graphics on 1440p at the highest frames, I would be fine playing like e sports titles at 144 FPS while slower paced games at an FPS higher than 75. I will only get an Nvidia Card no AMD cards. I don't have an insanely large budget so no SKI RTX 2080 ti's for me. From just looking at graphics cards I'm thinking about the budget range of an 2060 or 2070. Also I'll only get an ROG Strix Card as my current graphics card is that as well as my motherboard.

If your budget is around a 2060 or 2070 then get a 2060 or 2070, they are the best nvidia cards in that price range. The 2070 would be better suited for that monitor in modern performance intensive games, but is not the best card when it comes to performance per dollar. Unless you can find a good deal on a 1070 ti or 1080 used. The ROG strix is among the most expensive models for either of those cards, you're not getting much for the extra money versus say an EVGA XC card, slightly better VRM is about it cooling isn't any better than the XC ultra. But if you want the strix card for brand loyalty or whatever and are willing to pay for it then go for it it's a fine card.

Would an 2060 still do alright at 1440p because I can drop the resolution down to 1080p If I have to

Yeah. I wouldn't drop the resolution, 1080p does not look all that great on a 1440p monitor it will be more blurry than it would be with a native 1080p monitor. Just lower in game settings to get an acceptable framerate if you have to. I currently use a 1060 6gb with a 1440p monitor and I am yet to encounter a game I couldn't play with a reasonable framerate at the proper settings and the 2060 is quite a bit more powerful than the 1060.

Yeah I can probably just drop the quality and not the resolution thanks man, but would the 6gb vram be limiting.

Only one I have struggled with is Apex legends, cant seem to run it decently at 1440p on 1060.

2060 should have no problem running pretty much anything at 1440p.

Yeah I havn't played apex legends yet. But I bet it is getting a bit long in the tooth for very recent games. Metro Exodus was a bit of struggle to get a decent framerate in. Agree about the 2060 though.

6gb of VRAM does not seem to be much of an issue in current games from benchmarks I have seen, Cant speak for future games however.
