So I currently have an AMD A8 5500 apu with a xfx readeon hd 6770. I am looking to buy an upgraded graphics card so I can play newer games at a high level (ultra would be nice, but not necessary), currently I'm in Crysis 3, Tomb raider, and bioshock infinite and just want to see them at their potential (crysis 3 especially) I just had a evga 660 sc and it worked well for me, I just got it at best buy, realized I got ripped off price wise, and returned it to get a better deal online. now after more research I am trying to decide between a radeon hd 7870/7950 or gtx 660/660 ti. (but open to suggestions looking to spend no more than $350) I am worried about the A8 bottlenecking the gpu, but will that be an issue?

8GB RAM
600W power supply

You think that will do it? I don't really know much about overclocking. so that is the only thing that would make me nervous a bit. you think that a program with auto tune, such as Asus TurboV, will put enough extra in it?

I have thought about just scrapping the gpu for right now and doing an overhaul with one of the newer FX series CPUs and a new mobo but the I would eventually be in the hole like 700 when all is said and done which I really don't want to do.

your only option is to upgrade your cpu. id say get an fx-6300 and a 7850. it will cost you a bit but it will be well worth it. The A8 is not a bad cpu but it was never meant to be paired with hi end graphics card. Else if you are ok with overclocking then do that with your A8. however dont use sofware to overclock. USe the Bios. and get a 7850. its 2X of a 6770

Is the FX 6300 pretty good for high end graphics cards? If I'm going to be dropping the money now, I want to future proof as much as possible. that is why I was leaning towards the 7870 or 7950 because the higher memory bandwidth vs the gtx cards (from what I understand). Sorry for all the questions, I am fairly new to all of this and don't want to impulse by like I did before to put myself in this whole situation.

Ok, just wanted to follow up. Just went for broke after getting back my tax return. Here is my new setup:

AMD FX 8350 @ 4.8 GHz
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
Sapphire HD 7970 OC BE @ 1050mhz/1500mhz
Intel 520 180gb SSD
8gb RAM @ 1600
Antec Kuhler H20 620
Thermaltake 600W PSU
