Are there any games that actually need/use more than 2 GB of video ram when using one monitor?
I see that most of the benchmarks show that with 3 or 4 GB there is no real advantage. What about a heavily moded game like Skyrim? I play it currently, but I've not modded it up too much. I've been looking at either a 7970 or a GTX 670. If I went with the 670 the benchmarks show there is no reason to get the 4GB version. But if I mod games is that still true? I may eventually play on 3 monitors, but it won't be for a while.
Skyrim doesn't seem to need loads of speed. My GTX 260 plays it just fine (frames in the 40s to 60's) with almost everything maxed at 1080p, but it stutters occasionally, mostly outdoors. I think that's memory issues.
