Graphics in games sometimes flash blue.

In a few of the games that I play on my PC, which I have had for a while, it has done it since the beginning, there is sometimes a blue flash/flicker in the graphics. I have an AMD 7700 series of graphics card. It could also be the cheap monitor I have, which I had problems with to begin with. I had to purchase a DVI to VGA adapter just to connect it to my monitor. What is the issue exactly? Could it be that my Graphics card is not connected through an HDMI cable? If you could help, that would be fantastic.
