Just got my new 1060 and have noticed a few graphical issues.
On mafia 2, there are lots of textures flickering and jumping around the screen ( not really sure how to describe it )
And on steam, when scrolling through pages , there's lots of screen tearing. Has anyone else had this problem ?

Solution
Hi, Kingmongoose

If you had another model of an Nvidia card in your system or an Ati based graphics card.
Make sure you remove the old drivers used with either card if you have not already done so.

Before you install the Gtx 1060 card and download the latest Force ware drivers from the Nvidia site.

As it is often the cause as to why you get messed up graphics in games.
And when using chrome browser or windows browser you get screen tear when scrolling down the web page with the mouse.

Yeah, I have the same problem. Red dots flickering around in some games, colored balls of light in other games and massive tearing and colored squares in others. Some games run just fine (Diablo 3, CS:GO...). I've noticed that lowering the settings helps sometimes; other times it just lowers the number of artifacts. Also it's only a problem when I'm in-game, actually controlling the character or vehicle. When I hit ESC and the menu pops up, it always looks just fine. And outside any game, when I'm browsing, watching movies, listening to music there's no visual problem except very discrete things like: when I scroll the music list in Winamp it sometimes hangs for a millisecond. Things like that... I also noticed some tearing in Steam now that you mention it but it's extremely discrete to my eyes. I'm thinking maybe it's the driver. Haven't found a solution yet.

The thing that worked for me is reducing Core Clock only with MSI Afterburner. Try using Uniengine Heaven Benchmark (highest quality settings) to see if glitches are still there and reduce core clock until they go away (Furmark Benchmark works fine for me). In certaing games this still isn't enough. I still get a flicker now and again. You have to fiddle around with graphics. The things that influence it the most are Antialiasing, Shadows, Shading, Lighting and Particles (depends on the game but usually AA and Shadows are universal).

I've tried it out and there is no difference; I still get the artifacts. Core Clock remains the only solution so far.

I've also talked to a MSI support guy and he said it sounds like an overclocking problem ... until he saw the screenshots I sent. Then he said that it looks more serious and I should take the card in for testing/repairs. I'm gonna wait until the next Nvidia driver and if the problem is not fixed, I'll assume it's a hardware issue and replace the card.

Could u show me any screenshot?

I have same problem here with my gigabyte 1060, when I play I got some strange "lines" (artifacts?).
At the moment I just lower the core clock.

I dont know if should I give back the card for repair.

Thanks.

In my situation I have got 37°C in the desktop and around 50-52°C in stress (for example when I am playing World of Warcraft).

My card is Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 G1 Gaming 6GB GDDR5.

If you could tell me how can I check if it's factory overclocked I would answer your question (sorry, I am weak in this topic).

Yes - when I lower the clock the artifacts went away and it's all okay right now.

And by the way, one interesting thing when I played Witcher 3 (before lowering the clock) I had no the artifacts, only in games like League of Legends, World of Warcraft, etc.

Looks like yes, I didn't see the artifacts in game like Rust or The Witcher.
When I runned the Fumark I didn't see the artifacts also.

Sometimes I had an error: " Display driver stopped responding but has recovered . The driver NVIDIA SCREEN Kernel Mode Driver Windows , version 368.81 stopped responding but has recovered" then the monitor went off for like 1sec. This thing happens a lot when I alt tab to desktop.

this could be issues with old games. hopefully driver updates will fix them. i still remember back in 2012 AMD HD7k series having flickering problems in most (if not all) DX9 based games. AMD then release driver updates to fix the issue.

as for driver stop responding problems it could be related to manual overclocking/downclocking the card. i heard that manually adjusting the gpu clock can cause conflict to the drivers.

So finally should I wait for some new drivers or something or should I give back the card? (I bought it 6 days ago).

And really, really thanks for answering.

I'm not really sure how to do this. I hope you can see the pics.

First is from Armored Warfare.
Second is from Heaven benchmark.
Third is shot with my phone. Sorry for poor quality but you can see the line artifacts
All of them, the colored blobs and lines and rectangles and triangles - everything jumps around, they pop in and out very quickly / "dance across the screen"
These are all shot with factory settings on my card (no MSI Afterburner changes).

If pics don't show up for you, try clicking on "Zoom" button on the left of the page.

I would suggest you do like me. Wait for the new driver and if it doesn't fix the problem replace the card. You have 2-3 year warranty so there's no harm in waiting a month or so until the Lords on High at Nvidia finally decide to update their driver. :) If you replace the card with the same model and that card still gives you problems that would indicate a hardware incompatibility that takes a very special driver/patch to fix. In that case you should try to return that one too and change the manufacturer: EVGA, Asus etc. Or change the card model to either GTX 970 (which is basically 10% cheaper - 10% slower in my experience) or 980/1070 (if you can afford it).

My card is a MSI 1060 Gaming X model.
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1060-GAMING-X-6G.html#hero-overview

It is factory overclocked. In MSI Afterburner I can underclock it with 200 MHz (Core Clock) and 502 MHz (Memory Clock).
Temps are fine. In idle it's at about 30-35 degrees. In not so demanding games it goes up to about 40-50. In very demanding games, when it reaches 60 the fans start up and it stays around 58-62.
Lowering the Core Clock makes all the difference in the world (Memory Clock doesn't do anything for me). Artifacts go away completely in most games. In some games I can still get one or two here and there but it's barely noticeable.
In my case artifacts appear in certain games, new and old.
If I try to run Heaven at full settings without overclocking I get the "Display driver stopped responding but has recovered" message like windyyy and Heaven crashes. Games never crash.

looking at the witcher 3 pictures it seems you have severe issue. could be bad VRAM. this article is very old but it shows how the graphic will look like when there is issues with VRAM

from my experience just because the card are overclocked by board vendor it doesn't mean it will be free from trouble. once own factory overclocked GTS250. when temperature entering 80c range flickering black artifact will start appearing in my games (all of them). after playing around a bit with the gpu lowering the shader clock down to GTS250 stock setting solve the problem. i can leave the OC on core clock though.

in any case i think you still eligible to RMA your card even if downclocking solve your problem. because MSI advertise the card to be able to cope with such clock and yet yours were failed to do so.

Interesting article. Thanks for that. I can see something in the Witcher 3 image that looks like the "unexpected spikes" from the article. Yep ... looks like a hardware problem. I'll wait for the next driver in the slim hope it's a driver issue because some games run absolutely fine but I'm not very hopeful. Doesn't cost anything to wait and I'm not playing much at the moment besides Diablo 3 which runs perfectly.
Thanks again for the help! :)

Yeah, I know there are problems with some non-reference new cards. There always are. What I'm thinking is that maybe, MAYBE it's a driver issue because half of the games run perfectly (new and old), the card is new on the market (it's been out for like what ... not even a month?) and there's only one driver for it. I can't even change the voltage in MSI Afterburner, something which I've read will happen with new cards until ... someone, don't remember which company (probably Nvidia and Radeon) has a better idea of how the card performs and once they do, they will unlock voltage control if it performs well. Anyways I will certainly keep you updated. Here's hoping for a quick new driver from Nvidia! 😀
