I know this is one of the most debated topics but I still can't seem to figure how to go about this.
I planned to buy a wrist strap. I read up on this and a lot of people said that you wouldn't have to buy one because you can ground yourself with your case. I also read that a wrist strap can actually have the opposite effect and fry your parts.
This is my first build and I'm trying to take all the precautions possible. If there is a bigger risk with the wrist strap, then I'll leave it.
But so far I would like to get it as a precaution.

It's like 5 bucks. I got one because it's cheep and I fried a motherboard without one. 5 dollars for a little safety is hard to debate against. Yeah I know you can ground yourself without the wrist strap but the wrist band just makes it easier and constant

when i was in school my teacher said he hated them since when you have it connected and forget you tend to rip shit off and break them haha. if you are carefull enough keep your shoes on and touch any metal surface like your psu before you touch anything else and youll be ok, socks are bad esp on carpet in the winter

Just dont build on the friggen carpet, build on wood floor or on a kitchen table. touch the case side panel with both hands before building or touching expensive parts, that and dont wear heavy sweaters and you're golden =)
