Hey all,

I live in a really long apartment. We were forced to do a wired connection across the apartment in order to have a stable internet connection. I bought a Netgear GS105 switch and wired it from my router to my room. I have checked all my cables and they are working fine. My computer is not seeing the switch in order to connect to the internet.

I am running windows 7 on my computer.

Thank you for any help I can get.

Solution
I see this as:
Router -> long cable to switch -> switch -> short cable to PC

Process of elimination
Does the PC work if you take the router out? Just connect it to the long cable directly from the router.

If so, then either the switch is defective, or the cable from the switch to the PC is defective.

If the router works, and both cables work, then it would seem to point to the switch being the issue.

From the switch to the router....what port on the router are you using?

My roommate's computer is able to connect to the internet no problem to the switch. Mine is still unable to do so. I know my ethernet isn't the problem it has connected to other networks very recently. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. He is running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Could this be the problem?

The Windows version is not the problem. It's something else.
