Asus ATX DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 Motherboard Z87-DELUXE/QUAD
is the motheboard. Called Asus to ask a couple of questions about it since I head read about a problem with it failing to wake up properly from sleep mode. Latest shipments should have that bios update so no problem. He covered other points with me (very helpful) and re: memory said to check my memory website (which ever one I picked) and make sure its compatible and has no issues. Said look for "XMP" .

The memory which I already purchased - but could still exchange if I want as its not been 30 days yet, is the G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory F3-10666CL9D-16GBXL The package doesn't mention XMP but Gskill Website does mention something about "XMP" re: this product (which I don't really understand but apparently it is XMP. So I also called their tek support and he said its absolutely compatible. He also said they had faster memory but it was more expensive and this one would work.

Reading some reviews however, some reviewers said this Gskill is too expensive. So just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on whether I got best bang-for-my-buck. This 16GB memory (2x8GB sticks) was $152 (edited - not $191 as originally posted). The Asus teck seemed to favor Corsair and Kingsten.

Thanks

Is there a reason you just want kingston? I mean, I've yet to come across ram that won't work with a mobo. Not saying it can't happen, but not likely if you stick to better know brands.

That G.Skill Sniper I posted is 1866 CL 9, and only $149 atm. I'm not sure if you're able to order off of newegg, but, I'd just go for that.

Like I mentioned, I'm not super into knowing all about...

Do you get the increased speed if you don't overclock? I would probably not be doing that. I assume you're talking about this one:

Also someone said you only get that speed if your board allows you to mount them certain way. Not sure what that meant. I looked at qualified memory vendor page but I know that doesn't include everything, only what's been sent to them.

Check out these charts...

Make sure not to confuse "IGP" (integrated graphics), and "dGPU" (dedicated Graphics). If you're using a graphics card then look at the ones marked "dGPU". You'll see that there is very little difference between the ram speeds in gaming.

If you're using integrated graphics then ram speeds matter much more. I'm assuming you're using a dedicated GPU.

I think you're putting way too much thought into your ram, since you aren't going to overclock it. But that's just me.

that's true. You are sooo right. LOL (Its a little of my OCD coming out).
Will probably go with the sniper as you first suggested. Whew ~ ! Glad that's over with.
(I have a problem making decisions sometimes. )

Now need to double check my other stuff I picked out as I just had to return that other memory and don't want to make more mistakes. :)

I understand how that is man. I ponder hours over sites, and information when I'm looking for a new part.

That sniper is good ram, and you won't be disappointed. I mean, as long as it's up to par ram has such little impact on performance that there isn't much to get disappointed about.

Hell, you'd of been fine with the 1333, but, for the money you paid for it might as well get some juicy 1866 and be done with it. 16GB of 1866 ram will keep you're system running well long into the future. You'll be worried about upgrading other parts long before you'll feel the need to move to more ram.

I have changed the MB & CPU to this:

Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell 4.0GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor BX80646I74790K

ASUS Z97-DELUXE(NFC & WLC) LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

So is the Gskill sniper still OK?

Got all my parts in. New processor finally arrived. Can someone help with which windows to get? I want Windows 7 Professional (not 8) but not sure if i need 64 bit or 32 bit with this new build
