Hey guys, I am still new to PC gaming and I am curious about the performance differences between gsync vs freesync. I have only had first hand experience with a freesync monitor but has anyone had first hand experience with both gsync and freesync? Is gsync overall more smoother than freesync? Just wondering if gsync is even worth the extra money or is there hardly a difference?

Gsync is proprietary to Nvidia, while Freesync is made by AMD. Freesync is supposedly an open standard, but Nvidia GPU's do not support it.
What It does is sync's your Gpu's framerate to your monitor for a smoother gaming experience.
I myself recently upgraded my monitor and was asking myself if the extra $200 premium for Gsync was worth it and decided against it as I have a 980TI forcing me to go for Gsync. Imo, Im not a fan of a manufacturer dictating what I can and cannot install into my system.

Freesync is open standard. Any manufacturer can put freesync on their monitor, they do not have to pay a licence fee to AMD - unlike nvidia and gsync.
Also i am fairly sure nvidia could program their GPUs to work with freesync but they dont want to, in order to keep market edge. :)

I think feesync is based on an open standard. Display port adaptive sync maybe? I don't know if it's an approved standard in it's own right but a lot of standards are developed by industry groups who are interested in using compatible protocols. DNLA would be a good example Zigbee another. Apple uses proprietary networking protocols. The point is to lock consumers into their products I imagine it's part of their business model. Nvidia are doing a similar thing with g-sync.

Apparently g-sync has some additional hardware that makes it even more awesome. I haven't used either but I have a freesync enabled monitor in the mail. Still I won't have used g-sync so it will be hard to do a comparison.

Personally I don't like companies that lock consumers into their products but they are running a business after all. For some reason I have developed an attachment to amd graphics cards and I am gambling Vega is going to be the beast amd are promising. It's a bit irrational really. :)
