I have a HTPC running Windows 7. It has an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 motherboard with an AMD quad-core A8 CPU. Its an old motherboard, about 12 years old. It does not have a UEFI BIOS, only the keyboard-directed BIOS. I am locked into this system because I have a Ceton quad-tuner with cable card installed. The tuner card relies on Windows Media Center for tuner operation and decryption. Microsoft stopped supporting Windows Media Center after Windows 8 so I'm stuck with Windows 7.
I want to have hardware acceleration for HEVC (H.265) video because my quad-core CPU can't decode it in real-time. I want to know if an ASUS GT 1030 graphics card will work with this system. I have read that graphics cards that support HEVC hardware decoding , such as the GT 1030, require a UEFI BIOS to work. I only want to watch 4K movies with this card. I don't do gaming.
For the reasons I've mentioned, I can't simply upgrade to a new motherboard. I have to use Windows 7 with Windows Media Center.
