I have an MSI GeForce GT 1030 and on the card is a port with DP which I assume to be display port so does that mean I could run 120-144hz on it?

That card is a DP 1.42 or HDMI 2.0b
So Wikipedia says that a DP 1.4 port can do "HBR3" data rate -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Main_specifications It also says that HBR3 should be able to support 1080p 144hz -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Refresh_frequency_limits_for_standard_video
So you should be OK with the port on that card supporting 144hz refresh. You may get bad frame rates gaming since that is a pretty minimal card. For a standard desktop at 144hz it would work.
