Hello guys, I have a problem, GTA 4 on my PC goes just for a 20 fps, so any pleasure to play. But I'm using Windows Vista, so I thought that GTA runing on DirectX 10. Maybe possible turn GTA 4 on DirectX 9 on Vista ? Any ideas ?

My PC specs:

Intel Core Duo 2,33 Ghz
GeFore 8600 GT
2 GB DDR2-800
Asus P5GC-MX/1333

Thanks for answers 😉

your graphics card is the problem. it is not meant to be a gaming card, it's more geared towards media centers. that card has horrible performance with most newer games.

yea its deifnitely the Graphics Card. Im running an Athlon 6000+ X2 with 3GB Ram and a 9800GTX+ Superclocked. and i only get 10-30fps. with 180.84 drivers even when running at 1680x1050, and graphics at high. but not highest. upgrade your card.

i have a 8800gt but with a q9300 and i get 30+ fps, you should get a better proccesor

Alternatively, what I found helped was adding -dx9 to the end of the target within the properties of the .exe to force running with DirectX9.
So the target would look like: "D:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -dx9
Note the space after the quotes.
I had the same problem. Have a quad core but relatively low-end graphics card, but this made things bearable! Hope it works for you! 😀
