GTA 5 and open world games freezing.

Hey

When I'm playing open world games like gta 5 and driving around, the game freezes when it's loading the textures, sometimes you can see very low texture quality on the walls, bushes, grass ect. before actually freezing, and it's not crashing so that you have to force quit the game/turn off your computer. It's the last frame frozen with a sound loop of for example the cars engine. When you are standing still there is no issue. Except sometimes when in a store were the tables or the cashier would be invisible with a slight shadow. The game is frozen for about 15-30 seconds before going back to playable and with the correct textures. It's not only in gta but also in other games like Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4 and even Battlefield Hardline: Singelplayer only. The wierd thing is that the game is running perfectly fine with the fps (until the freezes). And happens with these open world games only.

My pc specs:
CPU: i7 4790K
GPU: R9 295x2
Mother Board: ASUS Z97-A
RAM: Dual channel DDR3 12GB 1600mhz/1333mhz cant remember.
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.

& what is your hard drive config i.e : O.S on an SSD & game data on 1tb hard drive ?

Yeah i have the game running at a hard drive, and my O.S on a SSD, my SSD is only 111GB, should I get a new one?

I'm quite sure if the SSD is only for Operating system it is fine but a complete tune up of the system could be recommended as something like the antivirus could be stalling the game so you will need to make sure it switches into game mode.

If your games are on a HDD then you could defrag the whole drive to improve data flow as mechanical hard drives can be sluggish if data is all over the drive

You could have the wrong graphics drivers & need to go back to something around V15.7 as I have an ATi GPU & the crimson drivers which have just come out seem to destroy itself with gta (most possible cause ?)

When I say V15.7 that's for my HD7770, so for you maybe roll back 2-3 versions to see if new drivers are conflicting, Rockstar have said on their site this month they are working towards a resolve with ATi but not yet.
With my card the newer the driver is (Crimson) the worse the stuttering & crash's get worse so roll back ur drivers.

I tried V15.7.1 and it still has the same problems should i just keep uninstalling and installing older ones?

What Antivirus have you got ?

What is your internet upload & download speed (do a test)

Can you also list all installed software on your system ?

If using win7 can you not upgrade to win10 ?

Did you buy the Graphics card new ?

I used the AVG tune-up software to tune it up 63%.

I got the AVG antivirus software.

Internet speed: 95Mbps down 11Mbps up.

Softwares: Itunes, Skype, Apple Mobile Device Support, AMD CCC 15.4Beta, Razer Synapse, Futuremark Systeminfo, CPU-Z, Bonjour, WinPcap 4.1.3, Msi Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server, Origin, Steam, Chrome, AVG softwares, Spotify, Speccy, And games.

I've tried upgrading to Windows 10, it installed, "required a restart" so i restarted and then it went back to Windows 7.

Bought the graphics card new.

Ok, last question - you say you have 12gb of ram ? how is that fitted on the board i.e. 3 sticks of 4gb ?

Yes, i have 4 slots but using 3 of them. Have you got any idea of what it could be?

you did not say if they were all the same ?

I would suggest going down to 2 sticks of ram in the same colour slots & they must be the same type of ram.

I also suggest you use the drivers for the gpu with the oem disk supplied with your graphics card.

after you have done both of these things try it out ?

for the ram slots use 1,3 as per your motherboard manual.

if you ram is all different makes just use 1 stick in slot 1.

you need to take 1 sticks of ram out leaving the one nearest the cpu (slot1) in place & slot 3 then try your games with the driver you have ?

I can try, but the problem with the ram is that my cooler is blocking them so I have to remove it :/

Edit: Right now they are in the positions: 2, 3, 4.

in you user manual it tells you to use slot 1 & 3 for two sticks, if this works for you I would leave the 3rd one out or buy a fourth as you may need dual channel for your fast GPU, or buy faster ram.

Ok, I'll place the ram sticks in those positions and see if it helps, thank you for your advice. Btw should i get a 250Gb ssd (samsung 850 evo). For about $120?

Well, besides that i "fixed" the ram sticks but it didn't solve anything, acually made it worse, now it's freezing and stuttering extremely, wich effects my fps so the game is now kinda unplayable.

Your i7 4790K is a 3.6Ghz processer, is it stock speed ?

It's at stock speed, but 4.0Ghz.

I have some games on my SSD but most on HDD, gta 5 is on the HDD, the os is on the SSD,

Seeing as removing ram has made things worse get the extra stick of ram & see what happens from there sp you have dual channel operation runing

if still no fix I would suggest using a uSata on the X1 slot to run the OS only then SSD on the sata ports for game data.
As running SSD os on the south bridge is a lot slower than moving it to the PCi bus side.

Do you think revoming stuff on ssd and moving gta to the ssd will help?

use an SSD for the operating system & setup software

either use a HDD or SSD for the game data, having game data on the OS SSD will slow the system down.

By just using the SSD for the operating system, then when installing games click advanced & send all game data to the HDD you reduce the load on the SSD as the gaming data comes from another hard drive enabling both the OS & the game data to operate at the same time with no visual lag.

So is there anything else i can try?

until ram addition added then you reformat all drives then re-install as suggested there is nothing more I can suggest.

All games to HDD only

So i just put i the disk and re-install Windows 7? Then download all games to HDD?

Looking on the Asus website you can update your bios to the latest to remove all the bugs from bios.

install all games to other HDD

That was it, i reinstalled windows and now it runs butter smooth thank you so much
