GTA 5 Steam to Rockstar file transfer

Hello,
I am going to buy gta 5 rockstar version. One of my friend plays the steam version of gta 5. As the download is huge, can i copy the steam version from his computer and keep it in the rockstar version folder of my pc and then play the game?
Of course there are some steam based file exists. I did this frequently in EA origin. But since its two different platform , that's why i am asking/

You can try it and then check out if you're able to open the game and play.
In my opinion it will be better to let the download work in the night so you won't need to wait.

It worked. It only downloaded additional 3 gb file 😀
