GTA 5/Subnautica on a GT 1030

Hey everyone, I'm wondering if I'll be able to play GTA 5 and Subnautica on medium or even high settings while having a relatively stable framerate. Ideally no lower than 40 fps if I can avoid it. My current setup is: i5 4460 3.2ghz, GT 1030 2gb (Gddr5, I've heard horror stories about the ddr4 version so I made sure to steer clear of it), 12 gb ddr3 ram 1600mhz. I'm aware that I'd have been better off getting a 750ti or 1050/ti but the lower price and energy consumption was more worthwhile for my current situation. [Edit] I forgot to mention that I'll be displaying the game at 1360 x 768.

I realize that I'll need to make some compromises to maintain a playable framerate, so if anyone has any tips on what I can turn down without sacrificing too heavily on quality I'd appreciate it.

This video should have your answer covered, this youtuber has EXACTLY the same processor and graphics card you have!

It looks like you can run a mix of normal to high graphics settings, so it'll look much better than the Xbox 360/PS3, and not too far behind the PS4/Xbox one version whilst getting over twice the framerate! 1360 x 768 is quite a small number of pixels for modern graphics cards so you should be fine.

Thanks for the quick response. I'd been hunting around and somehow managed to miss this, thanks! I notice that they have texture quality set to normal with everything else on very high and getting 60-80 fps. Would it be viable to raise the textures to high or would that cause too much of a dip in fps?

Could go either way I would just test it out and see.

Understood. The 1030 arrives tomorrow so I'll be sure to do so then, I've just been trying to get an idea of what to expect. So far this is a pleasant surprise given how cheap it was.

Mmm...you might have trouble with the game loading textures if you went to "High" I'm pretty sure you'd need a bit more of a powerful graphics card with more onboard RAM to run a higher graphics setting. GTA 5 needs lots of video RAM as the textures are quite a large size compared to earlier games in the series and, even most of the games roads each have unique textures of their own!

That's what I was afraid of. Once I'm able I'll fiddle around with the settings more and see what works. Thanks for the help.
