GTA V freezing while driving - system on 100% disk usage

So basically what the title says, ive noticed recently that GTA V has started stuttering only when im driving, this has happened once or twice before but the past week or so its been crazy, Ive kept my Task Manager up while playing to see what was happening and i dont honestly know how to explain it so, heres a picture:

i dont know why this is happening so, please help!

My Graphical settings for the game are basically medium with Anti Aliasing turned off ETC.

heres some information about my computer:

Mobo: Gigabte z97-HD3
CPU: Intel Xeon 1230v3
GPU: AMD R9 280x 3gb
Ram: 8gb 1333hz
OS: Win 8.1

Yeah you definitely should look at replacing that old HD ASAP. You should get an SSD for that rig, which you can get a 250GB Samsung 850 Evo for around the ~$100 range right now.


i have had the HD for around 3 years, i suppose that is a possibility. is there any way to check to see if it is dying?
 


My HD was about 5 years old, pulled it out of an old pc, and yesterday Windows showed me a warning that the HD was failing, which was the moment I knew quite clearly I needed to get a new one.

Perhaps you can still fix it by using some of the solutions found here
 
right, i feel like a complete idiot.

the problem believe it or not was that my video drivers werent up to date. i updated my drivers yesterday and ever since then i havnt experienced lag.
