Hi guys,

I want to upgrade my old computer's GPU and i need your advise. I'm wandering if the GTX 1050 can fit in it. This GPU model perform very well for the price but my PC is running on PCI express 2.0 and the CPU on 3.0.

My PC :

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0 GHz
RAM 8 Gb
Power supply: 375 W (should upgrade?)

I want to use this PC for a multimedia station on the TV. Emulations for the kids (Gamecube) and movies. If you have other GPU suggestions, please share :)

Thx!

you dont need to upgrade PSU for that gpu.

That GPU will work fine, but really for that CPU it's overkill. You could look into some cheaper options or recently used cards lets say, something like 750ti second hand will come really cheap on one of your local listing sites since everyone is switching ot the 1050

The only possible issue is an older computer like that won't have a UEFI bios, which the new Nvidia cards work best on. If you want a new card, an AMD RX 460 2gb is what I'd suggest. A used 750 Ti would probably be better since it'd save you money. Either card will work fine with that power supply. You should research any emulator you plan to use, to see what the hardware recommendations are. It could be you need a minimum CPU/GPU combo to run it properly. No need to spend money if it isn't going to get the job done.

Well ,you need high quality psu for that card ,i mean ur psu can be rated 500w and deliver 350.And yes ,that cpu will be a crazy bottleneck.Upgrade CPU ASAP.See your motherboard brand and check compatibility with q6600 or something in that pricerange.

That will be a HUGE bottleneck. Unfortunately the best CPU you can get on a 775 board is the Q6600, which is still bad, so when you can get an 1151 board and something like a G4560. In that case though 375W is not enough so get something like 500W and it'll be good.

it might need a 500w psu the older cpus draw more watts and if your gonna upgrade your cpu from a core 2 duo i would upgrade to the core 2 quad q6600 it has 4 cores and 4 threads
$12-22 on ebay
or if your motherboard can support this cpu upgrade to the Intel Core2 Quad Q9650
its $40-$60 but it will pack a punch

At this point you really have to get a new motherboard, as even the best 775 chips are outperformed by the budget chips of today.
Don't make my mistake, buy an LGA1151 board and something like an i5 2300 so you have an upgrade path to anything really, as 1151 is the mainstream, you could even put a 7700K in there. I'm stuck with my i5 4430 for a long time :/

EDIT: Oops so sorry I forgot I already posted here, like the same thing too 🙁
