GTX 1050Ti HDMI-VGA Adapter

It means you will have to configure video modes manually, the modes your monitor supports will be completely unknown by windows. If you do not have a valid mode set (in the driver used for the video card) prior to switching to that monitor/video combination then it won't work (black screen). You may need an old fashioned "driver disk" which comes with the monitor if windows is to be somewhat less annoying. The wire which is missing on a VGA cable is the equivalent of the driver disk (monitor driver, not video card driver...drivers for video cards must set modes monitors work with).
