GTX 650 is a goner. I knew it was time for me to get an upgrade. When I'm playing ARK and overwatch, I was getting around 25-30 fps on low settings. Yep I know. I don't need a crazy high end gpu so I'm thinking this might be the one. $300? I have friends that own a GTX 1080, 2 GTX 980 Ti SLI, GTX 970, and rx 480. So yeah... they got the good stuff :/. Anyway, I would like a gpu that can last me 3-5 years and get me 60 fps on high settings. We play blizzard titles and ark survival.

Regardless of the comments regarding the comparison I drew between our cpu. There is a bottleneck in your system. The 650 can run overwatch at high - epic settings @ 60fps solid and you are getting 20 - 30 on low - medium. if you upgrade the cpu fps in all games will improve, how much depends on the game. Now if the 650 is bottlenecked what will happen when you put a 1060 in your pc? Bring the 650 to a friend's place and try it on their system to prove that you have a bottleneck of necessary.

I'm running Fx 6300. I heard on other forums that they recommended an i5 for the 1070 because it's supposedly faster than a TitanX. But since this gtx 1060 only competes against the gtx 980 then I think it wouldn't bottleneck on games like overwatch World of Warcraft and Ark Survival. I don't play games like Doom, Fallout 4, Shadow of Modor, etc.

You may even want to switch to Intel. As I am aware not all amd chips are compatible and offer best performance with a nvidia card.

Hey, congrats on the upgrade. I have some news for you. I was running an E8400 CPU, 4Gb Ram with gtx 650 ti boost. On overwatch I was getting around 20-30 fps on low-med settings. I upgraded mobo to H110, ram 2133 DDR4, CPU to I5-6500 and kept the gtx 650. My fps increased to solid 60 fps GeForce experience optimised (high-ultra)

Your CPU is already bottlenecking the gtx 650 and if you buy a 1060 I'd expect similar bottleneck. I've seen it before when I upgraded from gtx9800 to gtx 650 and had no real fps increase. Change it all and get the 1060. That's what I did. Newegg estimates delivery of my 1060 by end of day today! I hope they're accurate!

To be fair, his fx6300 is a far reach from your old E8400..

The 1060 should be fine, but still held back by the fx6300 in some games.

@Robcrezz if you search a comparison of the two cpus it's not that far a reach. However regardless of that; The overwatch fps increase that I experienced after upgrading cpu but using the same graphics card is comparable - it's proof of cpu bottleneck in the 650. Had I upgraded to 1060 on the e8400 I would still have 30 fps. I expect OP will see the same results with a cpu upgrade and the same bottleneck if he doesn't.

Anything with only two threads will cripple any modern game, even modern pentiums cant keep up with new games.
