Gtx 1060 for 1080p@60hz

Hi there.
I was wondering if gtx 1060 will be a good choice for 1080p@60hz for a decent time to use.
Or should I buy a Gtx 1070 and get more than 60fps for now and use it for a longer time. But unfortunately my budget is not enough to buy a 144hz monitor, and i don't play games competitively so 60 fps is pretty fine for me.
I don't mind if i need to turn down the settings a bit in the future for a fluent gameplay. With all that said is gtx 1060 is an appropriate graphics card for me? Because I want to save some money for other components too.

GTX 1060 will be best for 1080p. I'm on to it. You will get 60fps easily with it. As said by some benchmarks, 1060 when overclocked will match 1080 stock performance. So, it's best for budget and get it before it's too late!

I'd say wait for custom RX480 models. The performance is fairly equal.. but my bet is RX480 will recieve better support for a longer period of time.
There is a trend when nvidia kind of "forgets" mid-range gpu's once newer generation comes out.
That, and you actually can buy a second for CF.. 1060 does not support SLI. If you prefer nvidia - buy no less than 1070.

I think in general a 3rd party 1060 is a great idea for 1080p.
Plenty VRAM, plenty muscles, great Power Consumption (GTX 1060 is the fastest graphics card in its 120W segment).
When time comes you need more performance you even could add another one (DX12 sli).

The 8 gb Vram and and wider memory bus looks better on RX 480, but my purchase plan is like this. My friend who has in Canada for a few weeks will buy me the graphics card and it will be almost the half price from where i live. Hence if I wait for RX 480 to release, it may be too late.
And if the system goes old, let's say in 2 years, I think buying a newer graphics card instead of adding a RX 480 for CFX would be better.

RX 480 should be in stores pretty soon, end of the July as far as i know.

I'm leaning towards the 1060 or 1070 for the same reasons that you are. With that being said, here is conclusion that "I've" come to after reading several threads and watching YouTube videos:

GTX 1060 - Is great for current 1080p gaming at 60Hz. It will max out most games but you will probably have to turn off features like "hairworks". Other than that, the benchmarks for the GPU look good. Looks like you will get a steady 60 FPS in MOST games (Ashes of the Singularity is the only game I've seen where it goes to about 40-45 FPS). The 1060 will probably get you by playing most games maxed out at 1080p for the next 2+ years before you'll have to start turning down the other settings.

GTX 1070 - Is great for current games at 1080p WITH extra features on (ex. hairworks) and will last longer than the 1060 (probably 3+ years). If you happen to upgrade your monitor to a 1440p monitor, it can also run those games pretty well.

So, in the end both cards are viable options. The 1070 will just give you some more time to play games maxed out. I'm planning on building a new rig in about 2 years so I'm eyeing the 1060 more (especially since the 1070 is damn HARD to find except for at much higher prices than the $379 price point Nvidia said it would be). After the two years, my computer will be about 5.5 years old and time for a hardware upgrade to take advantage of all the stuff that will be more mainstream at that point (4K gaming, VR, etc)

Well I will be building my first desktop, i used a entry level gaming notebook with a gtx 860m, and it really satisfied me. It seems that I will choose Gtx 1060, since it seems enough for me.
I have been looking up for the custom models of Gtx 1060 for a few days, and I liked the Evga Gtx 1060 SC one, it's price is quite good, but it's a single fan model and I am wondering if it will be enough. Since it's Evga I am ok with the quality, all I wonder is the cooling performance of the graphics card.

Sorry but your in the wrong, i have an overclocked gtx 1060 to 2ghz and its matching the same performance as the 1080 in some games and benchmarks maybe a little behind but alll THE TIME OVERCLOCKED this thing is definitely ahead of the 1070. IF you overclock 1060 it will perform better than the 1070 at medium speeds which means its better than the 1070 stock speeds if overclocked. If you dont understand what im saying. I mean this. IF the gtx 1060 is overclocked it runs faster than the 1070's stock performance and the 1070's medium performance is matched to the oc gtx1060.

Can you provide benchmarked proof? I havent seen a overclocked 1060 outperform a 1070.

For example, on techpowerups review they overclock a 1060 gaming X, its a good boost, almost as fast as a 980 ti in BF3, but the 1070 at stock speeds is still ahead:

In order to match the GTX1070, the GTX1060 need to overclock to 2.5Ghz up theoretically...
