Gtx 1070 at 1080p

I am planning on getting a 1080p 144hz monitor and was wondering if the gtx 1070 would be overkill and if I should just get an rx 480 or 1060. I will play games like h1Z1, dead by daylight, CSGO, and rainbow Six siege.

with 144hz its not total overkill, for CSGO it definitely is, but for other games i would say it might be worth it.

Would it make more sense to get a 1440p monitor with only 75hz? because they are around the same price range.

Fast games like fast refresh, while details are up and gone quick. Slow games are great for high detail, and not much need for fast refresh. Since your games basically are fast paced, a 1080p/144Hz makes much more sense than a high detail, slower refresh 1440p/75Hz. A 1440p/144Hz is top dog as it'll accommodate any particular game.
