Hi there,

I had almost ordered all my parts for my first PC build but then the 1070 was revealed.

I currently have my CPU and GPU left to be ordered, however, I am unsure whether to order those or wait for the 1070 and it's reviews to come out (which could potentially be another 1-2 months).

Also, if I do buy a 1070 does that mean I will need to buy a different CPU (parts list below)?

Solution
Your CPU shouldn't have any bearing on your GPU you can get in this case.
The 1070 is supposed to be released globally on June 10, and will be quite faster than the 970. How much is yet to be determined. I've seen a lot of builds put on hold for the new specs, feel free to do the same if you can wait.

I'm generally say don't wait, but given what were know of the 1080/1070, and the time period, I would wait.

In fact I just received a brand new 970 from RMA (not refurbished) and I'm planning on selling it to finance a 1070 while it is NIB

Thanks, for the help guys :)

Well I had decided to wait so I guess I'll just continue to wait :)

I hadn't thought of that! I'll order the 6600 then and wait for the 1070 and it's reviews :)

Well, normally I wait for these sort of things but considering my current PC is as powerful as a potato I reckon I'll just build the new one and wait for the 1070, 1080 is to much for me 🙁

just have a 970 shipped in through amazon or something and return it before 30 days or when the 1070 is released.. I believe they allow free returns or something on gpu's within that time limit, if not, you can just select the option saying its defective and i believe you dont have to pay return shipping then and you get your money back as well. p.s. I prefer the r9 390 over the gtx 970, I have owned both and 2 different models of each, the asus strix 390 and msi gaming 390. Then the Gigabyte windforce 970 and currently the EVGA ACX 2.0 970. Both 390s outperformed both 970s. and i wouldnt be surprised if they held their own longer than the 970's do as well. As for drivers. AMD drivers worked just fine. and have actually been more successful than Nvidia drivers in recent times.

Just something to bear in mind, it looks like the overpriced "Founders editions" will be the first ones out of the gate. Nvidia still hasn't made any commitments (to my knowledge at least) on the release date for partner cards, with their significantly lower MSRPs. So the wait might be a little while, unless you're willing to pay a bit extra to get it early.

I'm not saying it's not worth waiting, it may will still be, but just need to bear that in mind.

Good shout, but does sound like fraud.

I have done a lot of research of them both but they both are more or less the same. I decided the 970 as I have 760 and the software is pretty sweet!

So will the normal 1070 not be released on the 10th of June (I think that was the announced date)? even if it, they'll sell out pretty quick I should imagine.

I've been following the lanch pretty closely and I fairly confident that Nvidia haven't confirmed anything beyond the "founders edition" launch date. If I've missed something I'd welcome a link! But the only reason I can see for jacking up the price on the reference cards is so Nvidia can milk early adopters. So, I'm expecting a decent wait before we see partner cards, or as you say, at least a wait until they're readily available in stock.

That's all speculation on my part, I might be completely wrong. But if Nvidia are intending to release partner cards quickly and in good supply, the market for Nvidia's own "founders edition" card, which will undoubtedly be louder, hotter, slower and more expensive than partner cards, would be tiny. You'd only buy one if you absolutely had to have a blower style cooler. That's why I can't see partner cards arriving until a decent period after launch.

Nah, you're not wrong. I'm not particularly interested in the founders edition anyway, plus I'd prefer to hear reviews of it first. I think I'll stick to the 970 for now, might sell it later on down the line once the normal 1070s are released.

That is a very good question. I can guess, but you need to realise it's a total guess. I have no inside info here.

Rumours are that early AMD cards will be mainstream, so lower performance and lower price points, which is great news if you're in the market for a $200 card, but also means there will be no real competition for Nvidia at the 1070 performance levels for quite some time. With no competition from AMD, Nvidia will probably keep supply limited to the Founders Editions until sales drop. That could easily be 6 or 8 weeks after launch, maybe even more.

Again... just guesses here. Others will certainly have different perspectives.
