I am completely new to building pcs, had a pretty shocking one for about 2 years now and have decided with the release of the gtx 1070 that i'd like to build my own based around that.
I have an idea of a build sorted from asking around a bit, but would like any advice on swapping out parts (keeping to a similar budget at around £1000, i'm already over)/where to buy them cheapest (in the uk). Thanks

- better PSU
- brand RAM
- better case
- better storage

Solution
better case is a matter of personal opinion, thats what he selected and so thats what I put in, storage is identical, I agree about PSU, but again the RAM, how is it better? I don't see. Also, why the Palit 1070, I know it's cheaper, but the msi goes well with the build being it a Bazooka board, plus MSI are much more reputable.

it was in comparison to the original build

MSI is by no means a more reliable brand, they just sink tons in marketing but lack qc. the Palit card is fine according to reviews and test, no need to overspend for that fancy MSI logo on the box
RAM comes with CL15 timings compared to the CL16 of the Avexir.
the Phantom 420 is nice but they use too much plastic for my taste. also the Phanteks can take bigger fans (if needed) and feels of higher value

again this is no attack against you, I was responding to the original build and went with the storage you provided which is clearly the better choice.
the Bazooka board is pretty much a go-to for cheaper non-k builds

i by all means agree with what you're saying about the case, and I personally don't like the Phantom cases, but that was what he added so I'm just going with, totally up to him. Whilst the RAM is CL15 compared to the 16 of the Avexir, the Avexir is 2400MHz compared to the 2133MHz, and especially with DDR4, it makes a difference, unlike with DDR3 where it was actually better to stay around 1866MHz.
I do understand about the marketing, I just know from experience that MSI are good, especially when it's come to returns for things, they've handled it really well, I just don't know if Palit is as good? I would be willing to pay the extra for the MSI name, and for me, reassurance. Plus I did choose the Aero for the colour scheme, otherwise I would have probably selected something like an EVGA Superclocked.

well I have heard a lot of bad stories about the MSI support as well
yes, EVGA is indeed the go to these days
as for general RMAing they're bound by national law. anything going beyond that is usually EVGA.
but I'm glad to hear you made good experiences with MSI

yeah the Phantom 240 is pretty popular nevertheless there are better cases out there for the money
also white plastic will lose it aesthetics after a short period of time that's one of the many reasons I went with the Phanteks rather than with the NZXT for that price

2400/2133MHz doesn't make much difference.
if it was 3000/2133MHz I would agree (although you'll really only be seeing differences in editing and fallout4 with higher frequency RAM)
@2400MHz the small advantage over the 2133MHz gets completely eaten up by the worse timings.
as far as RAM goes I admit I'm going a bit with trusted brands. GSkill has a good reputation, I'm using Ripjaws V myself and they're great if you can fit it with your cooler
Avexir is a brand I do not know that much about and that I haven't seen anyone suggesting on this forum as well. I might be unfair to Avexir but 2400MHz CL16 just doesn't sound very convincing to me

Avexir are very much the new boys on the block, and I picked them mainly because they're quite showy with the LED strips on the heat spreader, if you look around you'll see that a lot of show builds use Avexir, maybe they should be saved for a higher price point?

thank you guys, could you reccomend any helpful videos or websites to help with the actual building? And what sort of equipment i will need to be able to complete the build?
thanks
