So I'm Happy I finally just bought a Gtx 1070. Even though I have a first gen i7 920 (still a powerful chip), I kno there may be some bottlenecking... I'm at 144hz 1080p but I'm hoping I can get a idea of how great the card is with gync enabled. What to expect? Should I be excited or nervous about how it will perform. If I overclock my cpu will that help the bottleneck? I do plan on getting new mobo with a i7 6700. But have to settle for what I have now. overall I think I made a good decision on buying the gtx 1070.

Solution
The overclocking is essential, but the "bottleneck" will be low to insignificant in most games.
This video talks about gaming performance of 5 generations of i7 (unfortunately not including first gen)

and here is a complementary with i5 including first gen. as you can see, the difference is not that big.

IMHO, skip the i7-6700 and wait for the next gen. Optane is going to make huge difference and you should wait for it's support in Intel chipsets next year.

It's still a quad core/hyper threaded cpu but you're not going to get the same fps as a faster CPU+1070, it won't be far, it would be safe to say that your performance will be in between an 8 core AMD cpu and a 4th gen i7.

4th gen i7 outperforms 6th gen i7 at the same clock ;).

I agree with that and still think my estimate is accurate on performance (never made any mention of 6th gen). When I was talking about better performance with a faster CPU I was talking about an intel 6 core oc'd i7 getting better 0.1 fps performance (aka 0.1% dips) vs. your average to above average quad core i5/i7.

Thanks for the replies. funny thing is I don't even play games yet, I make music, i just want smooth fps in my music software. Which at times can be graphics heavy, It's not using too much cpu as gaming would for graphics. So I hope I have that as a slight advantage. I will try to overclock my cpu to get the best out of my gpu untill I get a newer better processor.
