[SOLVED] Gtx 1070ti or rtx 2060?

Hi,
I’ve got an offer for a gtx 1070 to at $300. After doing a little research, I realized the rtx 2060 is on sale for $350. I want my build to be able to last for a little while. Any advice on which I should get?

Performance-wise, the two cards are nearly identical. The advantage of the RTX is its ability to do Ray Tracing in games that support RT. But so far, it appears the 2060 is too weak to do RT at anything other than 1080p or less. If the extra $50 is important to you, go with the 1070 Ti.

I'd go with the 1070Ti. Excluding Ray Tracing, which is not going to be big for a while, and the performance of the two cards is about the same.

Ergo, the 1070Ti for the $50 savings.

So dlss doesn’t really matter? And I thought overclocked 2060 matches the 1080

It comes pretty close to a stock 1080... Which you can promptly oc and pull way ahead again, and the extra vram will definitely come in handy if playing at higher resolutions. Dlss is literally just rendering an image at lower resolution then pretending it was done at a higher one.

Ok so for my new build I have three viable options for the gpu:
-1070 ti aorus at $300
-rtx 2060 at $350
-gtx 1080 at $400
The reason why I’m so stuck is because I’m I’m not sure which is the best value for what I’m getting. I am looking to play all games on ultra at 1080p

Any help would be much appreciated

The 1070 TI and 2060 have comparable performance, excluding the ray tracing, which sucks anyhow.

The 1080 is not that much better than the 1070 TI, especially if you drop a mild overclock on it, regardless of which, at stock the 1070 TI will pretty much max most games out at Ultra 1080p, if you have a capable enough processor. If the 1070 TI is in VERY good condition, wasn't used for mining AT ALL, and is being purchased from somebody willing to give you the original purchase information or act as an intermediary in the even you should need to warranty it (If it's still under warranty), then it's the better deal.

If any of those conditions are a NO, then I'd avoid it and buy the newer card which will HAVE a warranty, because graphics cards fail (Quite frequently in fact) and buying one that won't be covered by warranty is for idiots, or people with a lot of disposable cash that just don't care.

The 1070 Ti does have a warranty, and has not been used before. Do you need to provide proof of purchase for the warranty or is having the item enough?

You need proof of purchase AND the serial number off the packaging, in order to register the product IF it has not already been registered. If ANY component has been registered to somebody once, it cannot be transferred to a new owner. I know of ZERO hardware manufacturers, for any kind of hardware, than honor transfers of ownership. If you have the correct information though such as the original invoice and the serial number off the box, then you are usually good.

If you don't plan to play at 4k, DLSS won't matter for you. Obviously, the 2060 is probably the better option since it's newer, but it's also more expensive and the performance difference is going to mostly be nominal, if at all, over the 1070 TI. Can't SLI and no 4k, which that card isn't strong enough to support well anyhow, so kind of pointless except that it's newer and has full warranty. Sort of, up to you.

No such thing as futureproofing. What resolution and Hz is your monitor?

Depends on your amibitions Andy. I usually replace my GPU every 3rd year to enjoy new features and of course to meet the requirements of more demanding games. With RTX except for RayTracing there is not really something new which you could experience. 1070ti will be good for 2-3 years, thus this would be my preferred choice saving some bugs for the next GPU to come.

Agree it depends on you. A 780 or 970 can still run any game at 1080p 60fps if you turn down settings. I’m not recommending you buy these but it shows GPU’s can last if you are willing to turn settings down on newer games. 1-2 years isn’t likely to see a huge jump in game requirements.

drop the extra cash... i had the msi aero 1070ti which is a blower style gpu and i hated it!!! it ran really hot and since its a single fan it, it got really loud when the temps went up!!
