Hi guys. This question is not as obvious as it might seem at first glance.
I have Two:
Apple Cinema Display 30-Inch (Aluminum) Specs M9179LL/A - A1083
http://www.everymac.com/monitors/apple/studio_cinema/specs/apple_cinema_display_30.html
These monitors have built in Dual Link DVI cables and no other ports or interfaces. When plugged into any Dual Link DVI port these monitors run at full 2560 x 1600p resolution @ 60 Hz.
I'm interested in using a single GTX 1080 card to support BOTH monitors at native 1600p @ 60 Hz. The GTX 1080 series only has one Dual Link DVI port. I cannot plug in my second one.
I have read in older generation GPU's that it does not work to simply use an HDMI to DVI adapter/cable or even a Displayport to DVI adapter/cable. Supposedly this doesn't work because the adapter/cables are not an "active" connection. Many have written that one can buy an active or USB-powered adapter cable. But same people write that these active adapters are a major pain to deal with and they do not even work in many instances. Not to mention they cost $100 bucks.

Now the GTX 1080 has:
1 x Dual-link DVI-D
2 x HDMI 2.0
2 x DisplayPort 1.4
My questions are:
Is the GTX 1080's HDMI 2.0 port good enough or "active" enough for me to use a normal HDMI to Dual Link DVI adapter cable and be able to run my second Mac monitor at native 1600p @ 60 Hz ? (To use a non-USB-powered adapter?)
If not, what about the DisplayPort 1.4 on the GTX 1080? Could that do it with a regular adapter cable?
Thanks a ton guys!
