Hey guys.

I'm planning on building a new gaming PC in the near future. My eyes are set on a GTX 1080, and I think the Founder's Edition looks hella sweet. I don't really care about the factory-OC'd cards. The only issue I have with it is that the temps seem to go really high (around 80c).

Will this decrease the total lifespan of the GPU? And just how bad is it really to reach those temps?
Also, is there someone here who has experience with editing the fan curve in i.e. MSI Afterburner? If yes, how effective is it?

Thanks.

Solution
Temperatures in the in the low 80's are perfectly normal, especially for a reference cooler. The 1080 temperature target is 83c so when it reaches that temperature it use a combination of increased fan speeds and decreased boost clock to keep the temperature from going above 83c.

I can't imagine the heat is much of an issue as it is work as designed by Nvidia. Even the aftermarket cooled cards will hover between 75 - 78 with a low fan speed to reduce noise.

If you are going to go for an aftermarket cooler, look at Arctic cooling. I have had a number of them and they are very quiet and cool far better than factory coolers of any type. I went from the EVGA ACX 2.0 cooler to the Accelero Xtreme IV and my temps dropped by 15C.
