ok thank you for those that reply,

i7 4770k running 4.2Ghz
16G 2400Mhz Corsair Dominator Gt memory
GTX 1080

My question is that should I upgrade the cpu to an i9 9900 (which would require a whole new rig, which is fine) or get a second 1080 or get a 1080 ti? I think the 1080 ti would be better than the 2080 from what I have read, but correct me if I am wrong please. Any advise would be appreciated.

The gain going from 1080 to 2080/ 1080yi is minimal if you are running a older platform. 9900k with a faster ram kit like 3600 + should be able to utilize more of the 1080 gpu.

I have a 1080ti with r5 1600, running games at 1080p144. Most of the time, my vidrocard is running at 50-70 % usages. Showing some bottleneck here.

I think you should overclock your CPU further first and you can get a 1080ti as an upgrade then work on the platform upgrade down the line.

I have a 1080ti and I overclock it past 2GHz and I love it to death. Handles all my gaming at 1440p with great fps and not gonna upgrade until I start having to play games at medium present with 60fps

Thank you and that is what I figured. Lol the wife won't like to hear that I have to spend $2000 on a new rig, but it has been 4 or so years. Ok let me throw this at you... I somewhat know my gaming environment and was going to get the i9 9900K, fastest memory/motherboard combo available, probably get a 2080 liquid cooled on both the cpu and gpu. She's not going to like this lol.

It entirely depends on what games you play AND at what resolution
at 1440p and higher the 4c/8t Haswell i7 should be enough for most modern games
its only when you play online competitive games at lower res that you will need a better cpu
spend your money on a better gpu instead
the 2080 is about 35-40% faster and the 2080Ti is a bit more than that
that is if you dont mind spending 800-1300 dollars on a new gpu
