Gtx 1080ti system losing to a gtx 1080 system?

Hi, I currently have a system with a gtx 1080 ti, a 4790k at 4.6 ghz, 16 gb of 2400 MHz ddr3 ram, and a 750 w power supply. My brother has a system with a gtx 1080, 7700k, 16 gb of 3200 MHz ram, and a 750 w psu as well. What is strange is that, we both game at 1440p , and when we compare frames, he is usually at the same or near the same fps. In some games, my lows are actually 5-10 fps worse than his. So I have some theories, 1 is that while my 4790k isn't a bottleneck per say, but it can't keep up as well and so my frames are lower or on par with a gtx 1080? My 2nd is that my ddr3 ram is really slow and is stopping the 1080ti from performing as well as a 1080 on high speed ddr4. So, are these what's likely causing the issue? I should say that my frames are in no way bad, I'm maxing out games fine with 80-140 fps, but its concerning that my brother with a worse graphics card(gtx 1080) often has the same framerates or even better framerates. Not huge differences, 5-10, but still, a ti is 15-30 percent better. So, do you think that the cpu and ram are what's limiting my system to get full fps potential? I'm thinking about getting an 8700k, so it would be helpful to know. I should also say that cooling is not an issue at all, everything is very well cooled. The 1080ti is clocked to 2025 mhz and 5000 MHz on memory. Thank you for any and all answers :)

Are the settings all the same? The 4790k is still a very capable CPU. Even more so at 1440p because the bottleneck moves from the CPU to the GPU. The differences in DDR4 and DDR3 really don't translate much for gaming. The speed rating of the RAM does not matter much with Intel systems. Maybe with all of those differences combined will give you a small difference but not much.

Does his 1080 have a high OC? Are you running at stock speeds? I would think that your system should get around 20% higher fps than the 1080 system. But there are so many different parameters. Try running a benchmark like Unigine Heaven and compare scores.

The settings are always the same on both systems. His 1080 has an overclock to around 1975 MHz, but my 1080ti is clocked to 2025 mhz. Idk why my system is performing worse at 1440p, when the only differences in our system is that I have a better gpu, but a worse cpu and ram. But in some games, his fps is better if not on par with my system. Or in heavy action scenes like big fights in heroes with a ton of effects, my min framerates are usually lower.

Are you using gsycn? Are you using GeForce Experience? I have found that GeForce Experience does much more harm than good, even more so with Gsync running. You might want to try and remove GeForce Experience. I assume drivers are all up to date on both rigs?

I would also run over to userbenchmark.com and run a bench with your rig. It will test your hardware and tell you what percentile each component is running compared to other percentages. This will tell you if there is an issue somewhere.

Yeah, we are both using gsync and GeForce experience actually. So is it still possible that it could be a cause? Maybe its just effecting me more? Yeah, both systems have updates drivers as well. Thanks for the site, ill definitely give it show when I get the chance. I guess its also important to mention that we have run heaven benchmarks before, and my system does win by like 300-400 if I remember correctly. So it seems to be displayed their that its better, but not so much in game.
