I am planning on buying a new GPU. I've been waiting on the drop of the new turing based graphics cards cause I wanted to see if I could get a better deal for my money. So far the benchmarks have been lackluster.

I use my computer for gaming, streaming, editing video, programming and as of now rendering 3D projects. I've got no clue which one to pic. But I'm leaning onto the side of the 2080 since I want to futureproof my PC. Currently I've got a Ryzen 5 1600 OC'd at 3.6 GHz with 16GB (2x8) 3000MHz ram, and have a plan to upgrade the CPU in ~2 years. I would really appreaciate it if you guys had any suggestions on what to get and why you think so.

I don't play at 4k, I play on 1080p/60, but I have multiple screens (if that changes anything). I would like to play any game at ultra with 60 or more FPS.

Thanks!

My observation, just based on what I see so far, is that the 2080 Ti is the new card with the features AND the performance to possibly be 'future proof' in comparison to the 1080 Ti. In my opinion, the 2080 will work fine as an alternative to the 1080 Ti, but will have no practical 'future proof' benefit compared to it.

In short I don't think anyone is going to be using the 2080 for ray tracing gaming into the future, I don't think it has enough performance for that. So the best 'deal for the money' would be the card that costs less between the two, since you will effectively get the same level of use out of either of them. I'm assuming you've ruled out the 1070 line up.

Do you use Blender? I think I read that it's not currently compatible with the 20 series

If you emphasized on "futureproof", better go for 2080Ti. 1080Ti and 2080 performance difference is not much. So the short answer is: if you have the money, go for 2080Ti. If you don't, go for 1080Ti. It's more than enough for 1080p/multiple monitors.
