GTX 260 SLI vs Single GTX 760, worthy upgrade?

I'm hoping to upgrade my gaming rig later this year, and nearly everything has been updated on it over the last 2-3 years, apart from the graphics cards.

I'm running a 6-core at 4.0GHz, 16GB of 1600MHz RAM, a nice motherboard and plenty of fast, high-capacity drives, but I've never updated my two GTX 260's in the 4 or so years since I bought this rig.

I was looking at getting a single GTX 770, but I can get the GTX 760 for quite a good price through trade accounts, but didn't know if that would be a big step up.

Obviously there's advantages like much less power consumption, quieter, less heat, no SLI issues in games, DX11+ yadda yadda, but I have a pretty hefty overclock on my GTX 260s and I don't really have any issues in games, they're just not the latest and greatest any more :(.

So basically, I'm wondering if a GTX 760 would be a large step up from two GTX 260s, or I should wait and get the 770 when I have a little more money.

Your thoughts people?

I know how old my cards are, and all the benefits of the new 760s, but try to answer as if it were your money. I know the easy answer is to just upgrade, but 260s in SLI are still not a joke.

I can get the 760's for under £200 at present.

Then a single 770 is right out. Dual 760s mate. Even Dual 650ti boost would probably run neck and neck with a single 770. They beat a single 680 hands down.

I know SLI 760s would be better than a 770 and such, but really I wanted to know what you'd expect the difference between a single GTX 760 and my twin 260s would be. I'd always plan to get a second card down the line, even if I ended up with two 770s, but for now I'm looking at getting a single card.

Even a single 760 would destroy two 260s.

Even if we assume 100% GPU scaling with the 260s, the single 760 is more than twice as powerful.

That's what I like to hear :). The 260's scale perfectly, but know a 760 is a good step up is great. I'm looking to move to two 760s before long, or possibly a 770 and another 770 down the line.

Currently running 2-way SLI on some EVGA 760 OC editions and getting some decent X-scores from 3DMark11. Just shy of 6k with some moderate overclocking on both the cards. Have not had time to P-test is just yet...

I definitely feel that going the 2-way 760 route is well worth it and fairly cost effective given the performance you will get.

I've decided to break my 7 year streak of NVIDIA and get a pair of 280X I think. They currently cost just a fraction under the GTX 770s, and I've seen great things regarding their overclocking abilities.
