the crashing appears to be getting worse

could my cpu overclock be the problem? its overclocked via base clock not multiplier
i have completely removed the overclock for now to see if there ar

I also have GTX 275 and is crashing everytime I play games which uses the full power of the card after some time. This is because the card is overheating. This is the second Nvidia card which is giving me problems within 4 years. Better buy an AMD graphics card next time.

well i cleared out the heat sink (it was completely clogged up with fluff - like that when i got it as i brought it second hand from a friend) as it hit 90 degrees C while playing tera (didnt crash for some reason...) and for testing i took the underclock off one day while i went to games workshop and left my brother playing assassins creed brotherhood and he didnt report any crashes

Ok, it seems like you have the same problem i had. I thought that maybe i just had to overclock it a bit, but not, the solution was the complete opposite. Under "nvidia Controlpanel", go to "performance" and then "device settings".
There you should see "current setting" as a tab, and in the middle of the screen "clock speeds". For me it worked by adjusting the numbers to this:
Graphics clock: 501MHz
Memory clock: 864MHz
Processor clock: 1073MHz
But it took me a while to find the right numbers, just play around with the numbers a bit if it doesnt work, and remember that nvidia control panel sucks, so it wont save your settings no matter what, you will need to do this everytime you load your PC.
(you can just save a profile, and then load it.)
Maybe its the PSU thats not working right i dont know, hope it helps :)
