Hopefully AMD will take this opportunity to invest in its graphics division this year and make it back out of the hole.
Unfortunately, AMD doesn't have any money to invest in its graphics division, ATI. Its having to use all its money for paying bills. That's probably the main reason Anandtech said that ATI is settling on a role of providing med-level, mid-priced cards.
As the this new Nvidia card, I'm so disappointed that I think someone, of some design team, at Nvidia should be fired. To still refuse to include DX10.1 is simple arrogance. They are basically telling Microsoft to get lost. To then provide a card that doesn't perform as well as their top cards from previous generations, and then charge a fortune for it defies sense. It leaves a question of "Why"?
I can hardly wait to see the reviews on the 4870. I won't try to say that it will outperform Nvidia, but on a price/performance ration, it should be much better. And who knows, it would really end up as a coup de ta' if the 4870 did do better, at a lower price.
