Unfortunately, AMD doesn't have any money to invest in its graphics division, ATI. Its having to use all its money for paying bills. That's probably the main reason Anandtech said that ATI is settling on a role of providing med-level, mid-priced cards.

As the this new Nvidia card, I'm so disappointed that I think someone, of some design team, at Nvidia should be fired. To still refuse to include DX10.1 is simple arrogance. They are basically telling Microsoft to get lost. To then provide a card that doesn't perform as well as their top cards from previous generations, and then charge a fortune for it defies sense. It leaves a question of "Why"?

I can hardly wait to see the reviews on the 4870. I won't try to say that it will outperform Nvidia, but on a price/performance ration, it should be much better. And who knows, it would really end up as a coup de ta' if the 4870 did do better, at a lower price.

Yea I expected better. I thought that the card would atleast be 10 - 20% better than the 9800GX2 on average. I do not like the idea of a dual GPU solution, but I am looking to upgrade my GPU sometime this summer. When I go back to school...who knows what will happen to my money, so I can maybe hold off until early august before I make my decision. Alas, this has made things much more difficult... Damn you nVidia! lol

Bring back some 280 knock offs from the street venders. 😗

Man it’s crazy.
I have wanted to give Nvida $600 or $700 since the 99xx series.
If only they had put enough ram on the 9800x2 they would have gotten my money then.
So I waited and thought that it would be better to have a single card anyway. I was sure that the 280 would be at least as good as the 9800x2.
Maybe now someone will put a gig of 2 ram on a 9800x2….somebody, anybody?
Hopefully there will be a super OC version of the 280 that can make it worthwhile.
But now I will probably be waiting to see how the ATI cards look.
Damn, nothing worse than having the money to upgrade and wanting to upgrade but just not being able to justify doing it.
I was really hoping for another 8800gtx type of card.

overall its some very smart but dirty marketing tatics Nvidia has used. anyone disagree with that? at the end of the day in their view they want to fight off competition(they did already) and make money(they did also). Business is not charity so i really dont blame any businesses operating out there.

But there are speculation that the G200 cards will drop in price in a month time from release due to the fack that the RV700 is release near the end of the month.

I find it ironic that NV was the one that said they didn't want to focus on dual GPU solutions because something along the lines of a newer single GPU is always better.....Hmmm....what? [:mousemonkey:2]

Its is !!! Just isn't hardly what we were expecting. I love when all the hype just goes in smoke. I really do. Come Nehalem and Bulldozer !!! So we all can keep our X2/Core2 !!!! :kaola:

Al least the Nahalem preview showed it FASTER at the same clock...so worst case is it's not SLOWER than what we have now on most things. I was really hoping for NV..but boo on the "futureproof" spin !

thats cold!lol

but intel dont usually disappoint us like AMD and Nvidia. now make me look forward to Larrabee now!haha

Looks like NVidia pulled a 2900XT on us. I guess it isn't that bad, but it reminds me of it. I just hope ATI/retailers doesn't raise the price of the 4870 much more. I didn't think that the 4870 had a chance, but after seeing this I still doubt it will win, but it should be a good fight.

Going a bit off topic , i know, but we are talking about disappointments.

Nevah !! Intel is da shait !!

- Netburst
- Intel 740i
- USB 1.0 (Plug'n'Pray started there)
- The Tualatin cores !!! They were really great.......nobody found out what for.....
- The First Itanium !!
- Vista Capable !! ( yes a GMA 900 to 965 can do Aero and Fully play DX10 and DX10.1)
- Anti-trust monopolizing pricing and rebates, Never !!
- USB 3.0 (wait and see)

And that is from the top of my head while im working !!! Sorry about being so sarcastic but i was really getting fed up with the Hype and silly arguments discussion. Now we can Iron out the real hardware.

Ati's 4870 is only supposed to be a bit better (if that) then Nvidia's GTX 260 for ~$350, Nvidia is charging $400 for their card and are first to market so i don't really see what anyone is hoping for. Im sure the GTX 280 and GTX 260 will drop down to 600/ 350 real quick but i really wouldn't expect anything until ATI makes their 4870x2 and put's some pressure on Nvidia's highend.

I'm disappointed with the new card and how it performs; I wanted a card that I can finally use to play Crysis on Very High, but it looks like this card barely manages 35FPs in Crysis on High 1920x1200 with no antialiasing. No purchase from me Nvidia, thanks; I use to upgrade my GPU annually but now it's been almost two whole years since my last upgrade.
