Hello,
im looking to buy a new gpu for playing world of warcraft do i go for the 1gb 5770 or the 738 460? but i have a basic system with amd athlon x2 4200+ acer aspire now with 4gb of ram any ideas oh and thanks for the help up front.

im afraid im not very technical, my screen is 20" and i just let it auto adjust .. could it be 1048 x 600ish?

StarcraftII and WoW: Cataclysm use @ the same graphic engine. In GPU benchmarks depending on resolution the GTX460 768 beats out the 5770 by a good margin. Your CPU will probably be a limiting factor. Some CPU and GPU benchmarks below. Make sure your power supply can handle the @80 watts of power use by the 5770 or the @120 watts of power use by the 460 at normal playing levels.

thank you so very much, i know my cpu is going to be the bottle neck and im considering upgrading to 2.6 ghz, could you/ would you suggest a psu suitable for the 460?

so are you saying i should buy the slightly more expensive gtx460 and then some how find more money and buy a intel mobo bundle for as cheap as possible? thank you for your help any ideas and prices on mobos too?

Right click on your desktop, select "screen resolution" or if not there, select properties, settings and it will tell you. As to your original question.....the 460 is tier 5, 5770 is tier 6

WoW is very very dependent on your cpu, i would highly suggest a good quad core. depending on your budget i would either go with a i5 750 or a phenom 955, you can spend the extra cash and get models that have a higher clock on them.
i know that cataclysm will be introducing some new shaders and in order to have ultra settings on everything you will need a decent videocard, i would recommend the the 460 and with black friday around the corner you could probably get the 1gb version for pretty cheap.

hope this helps.

thank you for al your wisdom , im afraid money is fairly tight so i may have to wait some time for the graphics card if im getting new mobo and cpu. if i may ask without sounding thick.... what is black friday?

black friday is the day after thanksgiving and is the BIGGEST shopping day in the U.S.
everything is amazingly cheap for 1 day, usually the month of november has tons and tons of deals out there.
i do believe there is a pretty huge online sale the monday after called "cyber monday" but im not sure how popular it is.

back to your setup, definitely put more money into your cpu+mobo if you are just playing wow.
