GTX 480 to GTX 750 ti FTW ed?

My friend got an offer on his gtx 480 for $100 and mainly due to its power and heat put out I was thinking that the 750ti FTW edition would be a good upgrade at least on the temps side, and maybe fps side not too sure. Would it be worth spending an extra $70 after selling the 480 to go to the 750 ti? Also should he go for the FTW or a different one that is normally $160?

yes, the GTX 480 is pretty old and pretty much any GTX card 600 series later can handily beat it, the GTX 750Ti has GTX 650Ti Boost performance at half the power consumption so it's a pretty decent card.

and he should go with a cheaper one, though the FTW is clocked at a pretty ridiculous 1.2Ghz, he should probably go with a 155 dollar Asus DirectCU one and OC it a bit himself

Any other cards that would be better and around the pricing of the FTW edition? It seems that the 650 ti boost is similarly priced, and the 750 ti beats the 260x and the 270x costs more than the 760

there's really nothing around that price point other than Nvidia's other cards, the R9 270 is at 200 ish I believe, and the R7 260x, while a great value card at 110, is weaker than the GTX 750Ti. The GTX 650Ti boost is a bit better than the GTX 750Ti, but the main point of the 750Ti is it's extremely low power consumption.

I would still go with the 750Ti, the 700 series has some neat features that the 600 series doesn't have like Shadowplay and GPU Boost 2.0

however, AMD has that new R7 265 coming out soon at 150 bucks I believe, so that may turn out to be something pretty good

it performs higher than both the 7850 and the 660, so it'll presumably outperform the 750Ti too at a similar price, I don't think it's available for purchase yet though

well the power isnt an issue as the psu is a corsair gs600 and going from the 480 lower temps is nice lol. I think if he can sell the 480 the 750 ti FTW is what he is getting. He isnt an overclocker and stock out of the box would be better even though its fairly easy to do.

Wrong. In terms of performance the GTX 480 performs just like a GTX 660. The only downside is the heat and noise. So no not any GTX 600 series can handily beat it. Also the vanilla GTX 750 Ti when it comes to performance doesn't quite perform close enough to the 480 levels. The 750 Ti FTW might be close though due to the high overclock.

The 750ti will be tons better than an old card like the 480. Yes it will be worth the upgrade. Less heat, smaller, less power and brand new architecture. There really isnt a downside to it.

I have both gtx 750ti and 480 and I can say hands down the 480 clocked slightly upto 950 core / 2250 memory easily beats the 750 ti even when overclocked

Was able to sell the 480 for $100, and got a great and alot cooler 570 for $50, very similar performance less heat and actually made money lol

well if he's happy with the proformance of the 570, then god job all round, power is irrelevant if he's not gonna use it
