Hey guys.

I am going back and forth between the GTX 570 and Radeon HD 7850. Yes, I realize there are other threads comparing the two, but, I can't find one that is up to date now that the GTX 570 dropped in price by quite a bit.

I defenitely won't ever run SLI/Crossfire and will be using a single monitor at 1920x1080.

Here is the GTX 570-AR (Limited Lifetime Warranty) for $259.99 after rebate, free shipping.

Here is the XFX Radeon HD 7850 for $239.99 and it comes with 2 free games.

My question is, now that the 570 is around $40.00 (maybe more?) cheaper, is it worth getting over the 7850? Will I even need 2GB VRAM for single monitor at 1920x1080? Also keep in mind I will be playing Blizzard Games (WoW, D3) BF3, BFBC2, Skyrim, and possibly a few others. I heard that Radeon cards don't play Blizzard games well. I also heard that Radeon cards have some driver issues, and AMD sacrificed image quality for improved benchmark scores, have these been fixed? So, which one do you guys suggest, and why?

The GTX 480 days were fun...did a lot of things, but it is not really a feasible option compared with modern cards. The GTX 660 will come into the picture to but the Pitcairns power/performance ratio makes the 480 look ruthlessly inefficient. It had its day but with graphics you want to move up to date with concurrent architectures...GCN is impressive and the 7800 series deliver a good blend at the mainstream market.

I don't have a problem with it, it's not like I can use my 'jedi mind trick' over IP address and force him into a purchase. 😛
if I could then I would have a brand new LGA 2011 by now on him...
get it.?

my my opinion, recommendation or whatever doesn't need to be attacked when it's just that, opinion and why....
especially when I can prove my case of why 'I' feel like that.
you state your case in a cordial manner but not attacking mine.
just do you and we'll let the OP decide on what to do.

my last point.
cheers.

That's fair and the point I wish you had used several posts ago, instead of resorting to personal attacks like you did.

Matt1990 is on a $800 budget for his machine, so he may be more concerned with cost to own than you.

Tigerdirect or amazon. I'm in CA and would like to try to avoid NewEgg taxes if I can. I may make the 35mile trip to the nearest microcenter to get a deal on the CPU so if there's a good microcenter deal please include it along with amazon and tigerdirect. :)

If you can catch the 300 illusion on a sale for close to $40, grab it. Otherwise the Antec one ($50) might be more in your budget. The Fractal Core 1000 and NZXT Source 210 are also really good cases for $40, though they only come with 1 120mm. The NZXT has a $10 rebate on it, which would cover the cost of a good 2nd fan.

Zalman's has a split side window, and comes with 4 120's.

Has 2.5" adapter, but only usb 2.0 and audio/mic front ports. Your motherboard will have eSATA and usb 3.0 ports, but if your computer is going to be in a space where getting behind it is difficult, you may want those as front ports.
