So, I was getting 87C when the computer was idle. Then I found out the fan wasn't on full, and I turned it on completely. It is still at 66C when idle, is this normal? The fan is hella loud now, too..

66 is probaly not normal for a GTX 580. even tho that card consumes alot of power you still shouldent be at 66 idle.

Check your cable management and see if anything is blocking the fan or if your whole comps hot get some more case fans

My cable management is pretty shitty <__<... There are no cables below the GPU, though, and the temperature remained the same when I took off one side of the case.

you could try to update drivers, also your GPU could just be getting hot becasue of the apps running in the background
more fans. whos your GPU made by?

I have zotac gtx 580.

I don't get why it would help to add more fans to it, though. This has been a problem for quite some time. I also added a mini double fan for my RAM, and that is just above the GPU, so that should have helped.. But everything else is at a nice 40c.. So I don't think that is the issue :S

Yea it could just be because the cooler on the card isnt the best.
Zotac isnt know for good GPU coolers. If it has been happening for a while it could just be the card. You should be fine running it at 60 just make sure the rest of the comp does not heat to those levels

Ah ok :)

Ty for the help! Was a little bit behind on the driver updates, so I updated. Now I am 60-61 C. I guess I can live with that + the loud fan..

If you have had it for a while, it may be time to take a can of compressed gas to clean the dust out.

I would be careful about heatsink removal as some have thermal pads(not like the paste. may be on the memory chips and VRMs) that you would have to replace. If you have some then give er.

I've already done that.. I think the issue is solved now, though xD.. I wonder if it was all because of the driver update, or if it was because I set the fan higher... At the moment I am at 53-54C, but I was down to 49C..
